Añadir al carritoTrade Paperback. Condición: Used - Very Good. Matthew Monahan creates striking sculptures that engage with the formal challenges of figuration in drawing and sculpture while addressing political, personal and art histories. His elaborate compositions are created from drawings and fragments of former smaller works made from such disparate materials as floral foam, beeswax, glitter, pins, Styrofoam, glass and drywall that he assembles into freestanding sculptures. Handcrafted characters including warriors, saints, slain heroes and demons appear simultaneously as icons and iconoclasts within the ambiguous narrative to which Monahan's work alludes. Human emotions ranging from jubilation to anguish are depicted in Monahan's characters, each seemingly frozen in time and part of an unidentifiable, ahistorical epoch. Not driven by an interest in creating a perfected or pristine object, the works are as much representations of Monahan's thought process as they are finished sculptures. This publication brings together work from the past 10 years upon the occasion of Monahan's debut solo museum exhibition. Very nice clean, tight copy free of any marks.

Añadir al carritoHardback. Condición: New. The Los Angeles-based design studio takes on its most ambitious project yet: an immersive installation inspired by nature and folk legendsAfter working for two decades in the realm of handcrafted sculpture, furniture and installations, designer David Wiseman (born 1981) has created a signature palette of various mediums. The unique mastery of these materials prepared Wiseman to embark on the largest and most cohesive exercise of his imagination thus far: a Gesamtkunstwerk in a Hong Kong apartment comprising of screens, furnishings, lighting, wall and floor treatments. Designed in conversation with two of Monet's Water Lilies paintings held by the owner, the multidimensional space weaves motifs from the renowned Giverny gardens with ancient Chinese mythological narratives. This publication traces the journey of this "total work of art" from sketch to final installation, with detailed photography and captions on the production process for each material employed: bronze, porcelain, plaster and glass, as well as enamel, terrazzo and wool.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. David Wiseman is one of the leading American designers of his generation. Produced in collaboration with the artist, this monograph offers an in-depth look at his work, through Wiseman's extensive archives, documents, and illustrations. The book features sketches and photographs of his unique sculptural objects and environmental installations that reveal a true portrait of the artist at work. The book also shows readers many of his immersive creations that are in private homes and are rarely photographed. Wiseman's goal is creating work that brings nature indoors, ranging from small objects and sculptures to expansive installations. His signature Radial Branch chandelier, made of bronze and sculptured porcelain, is cast from fallen tree limbs he acquired on hiking trails in Los Angeles. His distinct patterns and motifs reveal his deeply rooted love of the natural world which is evident in designs ranging from faceted-blown-Bohemian-glass crystal tumblers and porcelain vases to rugs, dining room tables, stools, and benches. An intimate look at this highly acclaimed and popular L.A.-based contemporary designer and artist, who marries old-world techniques with a modern twist, and is best known for his exquisite craftsmanship and detailed creations in bronze, porcelain, and crystal.
