En esa reconstrucción aparecen la materia tangible y pneumática, los esquematismos materiales, la simpatía inicial de Bacon por el atomismo, las tradiciones alquímicas y la tensión entre conocimiento de la naturaleza e intervención técnica sobre ella. La recepción académica confirma el valor del libro. Sofía Calvente señaló en Revista de Filosofía y Teoría Política que Entre el atomismo y la alquimia aporta la primera exposición global sobre la concepción baconiana de la materia y que la reconstrucción realizada por Manzo es indispensable para comprender con mayor claridad la relación entre la filosofía especulativa de Bacon y sus fuentes. Silvia Manzo es investigadora del Conicet y profesora de Filosofía Moderna en la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación de la Universidad Nacional de La Plata. Su perfil académico registra investigaciones y publicaciones sobre historia de la filosofía moderna, historia de la ciencia, canon filosófico e historiografía de la filosofía.
