His gift was the first major collection of self-taught art primarily from the South to be given to a general interest American museum. This book is published in conjunction with the first public exhibition of the Hahn Collection. The collection comprises more than 140 paintings, works on paper, and sculptures-the creations of more than thirty artists. Much of that collection or at least a selection can be enjoyed in the book, in full color or full page with deep informative text about the author and their work. Fine and bright brown boards with gilt titles in like dustjacket with crisp bright text throughout.

This 200 page hardback is copiously illustrated with mainly b/w photographs of items but with some in colour. It has a forward by Victor Margie and divided into 7 different sections that cover all of the crafts in the Crafts Council collection acquired between those dates. The sections are as follows: Books and lettering; Ceramics; Furniture, toys & wood; Glass; Jewellery; Metalwork and Textiles. There is also a list of Crafts in other collections and an Index of Makers. The book itself is tight and clean but the pages show a darkening around the edges due to the paper used and its age. The images are of the actual book being sold and show the dust jacket condition.
