A translation of KET VILAG HARCA (1935), a novel written by Laszio Detre (1874-1939), a Hungarian physician and microbiologist who coined the term "antigen" and co-discovered the Wasserman reaction. "Intelligent ants menace the regimented and scientific world of A.D. 2000." - Clarke, Tale of the Future (1978), p. 69. The ants and their allies, the termites, are not super insects with advanced weapons or superior technology. They are normal (but intelligent) insects who band together to end mankind's total dominance of the planet which (by the time the war begins) has resulted in the destruction of nearly all animal life on earth. The insects develop an effective method to destroy all of the earth's cultivated food crops. They demand half of the planet's surface in exchange for peaceful coexistence of man and insect. The war ends when the insects have made their point and settle for a fifth of land. Basically an antiwar fiction. The novel was published in English as WAR OF TWO WORLDS (1936).
