Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Consuming Pleasures traces the international and Australian history of licit and illicit drug use.It examines why we consume and what we consume, as well as the way in which consumption is regulated in the era of global free trade. It also looks at drug use from an Australian perspective, going back to our own opium-growing industry and the racist origins of our drug laws. In doing so it considers the paradox of contemporary white Australian identity- on the one hand an image of fit, sun-bronzed athletic types at home in the surf; on the other a nation of people whose per capita drug consumption often equals and more often than not surpasses that of most other nations. This book traces the international and Australian history of licit and illicit drug use. It examines why we consume and what we consume, as well as the way in which consumption is regulated in the era of global free trade. Añadir al carrito4to, 1 p. Twenty-one lines of text. Clear and complete. On aged, stained and worn paper, with a couple of small spike holes. Revealing, in the attention to detail which it exhibits. He begins by reporting that 'the Rosabella arrived safe & the books appear to be correct with the following exceptions'. Two paragraphs follow, carefully describing duplicate plates and other faults in the books received (including "Genus Plantarum"). The replacements may be sent 'through Wilmer & Smith, booksellers, Liverpool - or by Harden's express - or through Messrs. John D. Thornely & Son - merchants - Liverpool - In either way they will reach me safely'. BBTI has Rainford at a number of addresses in the Holborn area between 1826 and 1843.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Tracing the international and Australian history of both licit and illicit drug use, this investigation combines the topic of drug use with analyses of political power, the rise of the market, and social issues. It examines the way in which drug consumption is regulated in the era of global free trade by first looking at the start of the opium-growing industry and the racist origins of drug laws. Providing a social history of drug use through the lens of international politics, market forces, medicine, and race, this discussion also considers the paradox of contemporary, white Australian identity and an Australia as a nation of people whose per capita drug consumption often equals and surpasses that of most other nations.
