When originally issued this report was limited to the U.S. Government and their authorized contractors. Given the passage of time, advances in technology, and dissemination of related information into the public domain. Among the contributors are: Paul Dimotakis, Sidney Drell, and Freeman Dyson. John Michael Cornwall (born 19 August 1934) is an American theoretical physicist who is known for the Pinch Technique. Cornwall invented the Pinch Technique for calculating gauge-invariant off-shell Green's functions for QCD and other Yang-Mills theories, showing how a dynamical gauge-invariant mass arises for QCD gluons and how such gluons lead to confinement and other non-perturbative phenomena. He has also written some 40 papers on space plasmas such as the magnetospheric ring current, leading among other things to a detailed understanding of the dynamical role of electromagnetic cyclotron instabilities in the magnetosphere. Cornwall published with Richard E. Norton in 1973 one of the earliest papers on dynamic symmetry breaking in Yang-Mills theories. He was an advisor to the Institute for Defense Analyses in Alexandria, as well as to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). He was a member of the Defense Science Board. He is a long-term member of the JASON Advisory Group. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society (2005), the American Geophysical Union, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The JASON study was informed by 'The Lincoln Labs" study which also posed challenges due to limitation on its use. Missile defense systems are a type of missile defense intended to shield a country against incoming missiles, such as intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBMs) or other ballistic missiles. The United States, Russia, Taiwan, India, France, Israel, Italy, United Kingdom and China have all developed missile defense systems. The term "Missile defense system" broadly means a system that provides any defense against any missile type (conventional or nuclear) by any country. Any mechanism which can detect and then destroy a missile before it can cause any harm is called a missile defense system (MDS). The role of defense against nuclear missiles has been a heated military and political topic for several decades. However, missile defense is no longer limited to interception of strategic nuclear weapons. The gradual development and proliferation of missile technology has blurred the line between the technologies for the interception of tactical missiles (usually short to intermediate range with non-nuclear payloads) and the interception of strategic missiles (usually long ranged with nuclear payloads). High-performance tactical ballistic missiles carrying non-nuclear payloads now have the ability to affect strategic balance in conflict zones. Likewise, high-performance tactical missile defense systems can now influence force deployment strategies. Defending against an attack by a cruise missile is similar to tackling low-flying manned aircraft and hence most methods of aircraft defence can be used for a cruise missile defense system.

Añadir al carrito2pp., 12mo. 40 lines. Bifolium. Good, on aged paper. The reverse of the second leaf carries half of a red wax seal, as well as the address to 'James Loch Esqr | Bloomsbury Square'. The letter begins: 'My dear Loch | Some friends of mine from the Country are desirous of seeing Lord Stafford's & Lord Grosvenor's pictures some time next week; & they understand that the obtaining of Tickets is not a matter of course but that some little interest is necessary.' He asks for assistance 'with regard to Cleveland House [.] for Mrs Johnston & party (about 5 or 6 persons)'. He is going 'to the Cambridge Election' on the following day, and thinks that it will be 'very keenly contested'. On his return he hopes 'to attend the Council of the London University', when he hopes 'that Horner's business will be finally & satisfactorily settled'. He has heard 'nothing more about Silk Gowns', but 'Willy Brougham [.] persists in retaining his appointment and will not be scared into resignation, like Plunkett, by the Chancery Lawyers.' In the last paragraph he deprecates the news that 'Lord Exeter is to have one of the blue Ribbands, though he is no friend of Canning's, & indeed closely connected with the high Tory opposition'. This is, in his view, 'one among many instances of C's weakness, & entire dependence upon the higher power.' There is no mention of Loch in Lady Seymour's 'The "Pope" of Holland House, Selections from the Correspondence of John Whishaw and his Friends, 1813-1840' (1906), and the year 1827 is skirted over.

Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Non-Abelian gauge theories, such as quantum chromodynamics (QCD) or electroweak theory, are best studied with the aid of Green's functions that are gauge-invariant off-shell, but unlike for the photon in quantum electrodynamics, conventional graphical constructions fail. The pinch technique provides a systematic framework for constructing such Green's functions, and has many useful applications. Beginning with elementary one-loop examples, this book goes on to extend the method to all orders, showing that the pinch technique is equivalent to calculations in the background field Feynman gauge. The SchwingerDyson equations are derived within the pinch technique framework, and are used to show how a dynamical gluon mass arises in QCD. Finally the volume turns to its many applications. This book is ideal for elementary particle theorists and graduate students. This 2011 title has been reissued as an Open Access publication on Cambridge Core. This monograph describes the pinch technique and its evolution from simple one-loop beginnings to a systematic method at all orders of perturbation theory and then to fully gauge-invariant SchwingerDyson equations, leading to its many applications. This 2011 title has been reissued as an Open Access publication on Cambridge Core. This item is printed on demand.
