Hardback. Condición: Good. The Darwinian elements of survival and harmony have always attracted writers, philosophers, and artists working in all mediums, specifically, in the sport of Boxing. Sports have always played an important role in the principle and foundation of Latino Culture, specifically in the Puerto culture and its Diaspora. This is true for the artist Carlos Rolon (Dzine). The sweet science played an important role within his family household. Watching a young Howard Cosell on ABCs Wide World and the infamous No Mas fight with Roberto Duran and Sugar Ray Leonard is how the artist a young age bonded with his father. His previous publication Nailed, which the artist viewed as a love letter to his mother, Rolon sees BOXED as a homage to his father. Following the success of the Nailed, the goal is to archive how artists and documentarians have historically used boxing as a metaphor used or been inspired by the sport from its inception into contemporary culture. As with Nailed, the publication will result and include a new body of work produced by the author. Co-published with Paul Kasmin Gallery a foreword by LACMA Chief Curator Franklin Sirmans, artists featured in Boxed include Andreas Gursky, Jean- Michel Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Gary Simmons, Satch Hoyt, Rashid Johnson, Christopher Wool, Cheryl Dunn, Terence koh, David Hammons, Ed Ruscha, Jeff Koons, George Bellows, Yoshitomo Nara, Jules De Balincourt, Paul Pfeiffer, Martine Barat, Claes Oldenburg, Glenn Ligon, Lyle Owerko, Chris Mosier and Ed Paschke, etc.…

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Common Practice seeks to examine the ways in which contemporary art relates with the sport and surrounding culture of basketball. Basketball has long proven to inform and inspire works of art across generations, from David Hammon's 'Higher Goals' and Robert Indiana's 'Mecca Floor', to the current day works of Nina Chanel Abney and Titus Kaphar. Many of the artists represented have at one point or more throughout their practice shared an interest in utilizing the ubiquity of basketball iconography as a means to shine a light on issues of social inequality, political justice and other formidable cultural commentary. This publication serves as a journey to further understand basketball not only as a physical activity played between a series of lines, but to see the game outside of those lines through the wider lens of art. One hope is to advance the idea, especially for young people, that both artists and athletes have more in common than one might believe, and in doing so further disseminate the idea that creativity is not exclusive to just one type of person, but something we all have an intrinsic accessibility to.'Common Practice' is a colloquial term in every sense. The irony of joining the two contrasting worlds of art and basketball is a play on this idea, the thread between them being practice: 'to perform an activity or exercise regularly in order to improve or maintain one's proficiency'. It is precisely this underlying need to rehearse, discover and explore through the act of doing, that makes these two very different ideas of perfecting one's craft, much the same.…

Hardcover. Condición: New. The work of Dzine, who was born in Chicago as Carlos Rolon in 1970, alludes to Latin American Kustom Kulture and aesthetics from ghetto to baroque. By combining these influences in a playfully ironic way, he has created a unique visual language that has already found its place in renowned museums, collections, and galleries. Dzine s art stems from the place where the conflicting worlds of luxury and the street intersect - where desire, identity, beauty, and meticulousness collide in kaleidoscopic colors. He reworks everyday objects, bicycles, ghetto blasters, or Latino status symbols - including low-rider cars - until his perfected versions subsume their original functions and the visual excess causes those viewing his art to question their own value systems. The Beautiful Struggle is the first comprehensive collection of the full spectrum of Dzine s work in the areas of sculpture, painting, and installation. A foreword by filmmaker Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me) as well as texts and quotes by other creatives and art insiders such as Dallas Contemporary director Peter Doroshenko round out this unique monograph.…
