Architektonische Details, Kleidung, Figuren und Musikinstrumente basieren dabei auf römischen Originalen.Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (18361912) war ein niederländischer Historienmaler, der für seine Darstellungen des Luxus und der Dekadenz des Römischen Reiches bekannt wurde.Alma-Tademas Interesse an der Antike war unersättlich und er ließ sein Wissen in mehr als 300 Gemälde zu antiker Archäologie und Architektur einfließen. Später weckten seine riesigen Panoramabilder des griechischen und römischen Lebens das Interesse von Hollywood. Einige Szenen in Cecil B.
