Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. The Goetia is the most famous grimoire after the Key of Solomon. This volume contains a transcription of a hitherto unpublished manuscript of the Lemegeton which includes four whole grimoires: Liber Malorum Spituum seu Goetia; Theurgia-Goetia; Ars Paulina (Books 1 & 2); Ars Almadel. This was owned by Dr Thomas Rudd, a practising scholar-magician of the early seventeenth century. There are many editions of the Goetia, of which the most definitive is that of Joseph Peterson, but here we are interested in how the Goetia was actually used by practising magicians in the 16th and 17th century, before the knowledge of practical magic faded into obscurity. To evoke the 72 demons listed here without the ability to bind them would be foolhardy indeed. It was well known in times past that invocatio and ligatio, or binding, was a key part of evocation, but in the modern editions of the Goetia this key technique is expressed in just one word 'Shemhamaphorash', and its use is not explained. This volume explains how the 72 angels of the Shem ha-Mephorash are used to bind the spirits, and the correct procedure for safely invoking them using special seals incorporating the necessary controlling angel, whose name is also engraved on the breastplate and Brass Vessel. No visible wear to boards or spine. An excellent copy. Description: The Goetia of Dr Rudd by Stephen Skinner and David Rankine is a major modern study of the Lemegeton and Solomonic magical tradition, based on the work of the seventeenth-century magician Dr Thomas Rudd. Published by Golden Hoard Press, this volume reconstructs Rudd's system of spirit evocation, notable for pairing the Goetic demons with corresponding Shemhamphorash angels, providing a structured and balanced approach to ceremonial magic. The book includes material from key grimoires such as: * Ars Goetia * Ars Paulina * Ars Almadel * Theurgia-Goetia * Liber Malorum Spirituum Drawing on manuscript sources and practical reconstruction, this work is widely regarded as one of the most important contemporary texts on grimoire magic and spirit evocation. A highly desirable Golden Hoard title for collectors and practitioners of Solomonic magic and Western esotericism. Carefully packaged and dispatched promptly.

Black cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine and front board. 448 pp 4to. The Goetia is the most famous grimoire after the Key of Solomon. The owner of this handbook of sorcery was Dr. Thomas Rudd, the most important scholar-magician of the early seventeenth century, and a magical successor to Dr. John Dee. This book explains how the 72 angels of the Shemhamphorash are used to evoke and safely bind demons--material that has not been made available in any previous edition. This rare volume contains a transcription of a hitherto unpublished manuscript of the Lemegeton and includes illustrations drawn from rare manuscripts held in the British Library. This is a compilation of the most complete version of the Goetia, despite the title Dr. Rudd's manuscript only makes up a large portion of the text, it actually draws from seven version of the Goetia, and four other related texts. The intro is amazing, taking up the first 100 pages, the authors explain their deduced origin of the Goetia, the books and schools of thought that were synthesized into this text, following it for nearly 800 years. The main text itself it not largely different from most modern versions of the Goetia, except it includes the names, seals and associated Psalm of the Shem ha-Mephorash Angels that are to be used in order to control the Demons, and explaining how the Circle was supposed to be drawn. A clean very presentable copy.
