Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fair. No Jacket. The Diary of John Evelyn, Esq., F.R.S. From 1641 to 1705-6 with Memoir (1890 Hardcover without Dust Jacket) Diary of one of the first Englishmen who traveled for the joy of it. Vivid descriptions of Europe in the late 17th & early 18th century. Edited By William Bray, Esq., Fellow and Treas…urer of the Society of Antiquaries of London. John Evelyn, FRS (1620--1706) was an English writer, gardener and diarist. Evelyn's diaries, or memoirs, are largely contemporaneous with those of his rival diarist, Samuel Pepys, and cast considerable light on the art, culture and politics of the time (the deaths of Charles I and Oliver Cromwell, the last Great Plague of London, and the Great Fire of London in 1666). Over the years, Evelyn's Diary has been overshadowed by Pepys's chronicles of 17th-century life. You decide. xvi + 17-619 pages. Hardcover has red cloth covers with gold lettering on spine and page-edges, but no dust jacket. Mild solvent spill (could be water) on front & spine, left spots. Front gutter torn enough so that front board detached from text block, repaired with tape. Ex-Libris sticker on front paste-down. Interior text block is tight, clean and unmarked. Book is in very usable condition. Undoubtedly in public domain when this edition was published, no copyrights asserted, nor publication dates given. End-papers indicate this title is part of Warne "The Chandos Classics" series, not dated, but circa 1926. No ISBN, LCCN nor MSR. Thanks for looking. Prior Owner Name No Value.
