Chicago: University of Illinois Press:, 2021. First edition, TPBO, Trade paperback, New, 208 pp. Cover artwork by: Vincent Giordano "Roger Zelazny combined poetic prose with fearless literary ambition to become one of the most influential science fiction writers of the 1960s. Yet many critics found his later novels underachieving and his turn to fantasy a disappointment. F. Brett Cox surveys the landscape of Zelazny's creative life and contradictions. Launched by the classic 1963 short story 'A Rose for Ecclesiastes' Zelazny soon won the Hugo Award for Best Novel with '.And Call Me Conrad' and two years later won again for 'Lord of Light.' Cox looks at the author's overnight success and follows Zelazny into a period of continued formal experimentation, the commercial triumph of the Amber sword and sorcery novels, and renewed acclaim for Hugo-winning novellas such as 'Home Is the Hangman' and '24 Views of Mt. Fuji, by Hokusai.'" First edition, TPBO, Trade paperback, New. Vincent Giordano (ilustrador).…

Hardcover. Condición: Sehr gut. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Sehr gut. 1. Auflage. Z : 349 pages, clothbound - Published to accompany a major transatlantic exhibition of international surrealism, this lavishly illustrated catalogue explores desire in surrealist art in both words and images. Key works by such artists as Duchamp, Magritte, Ernst, Dali, de Chirico, Giacometti, Bellmer, Oppenheim, and Cahun are illustrated and discussed, as are surrealist films and photographs by Man Ray, Brassaï, and others. The volume also features some of the rare and beautiful books produced by the surrealists in their celebration of love, as well as a selection of fascinating manuscripts, letters, and documentary photographs that reveal the personal contexts of the group's exploration of desire. Essays by leading scholars show how the theme of desire was implicated in almost all aspects of surrealist activity--not only its art and writings, but also its political struggles and its ethical stances on issues involving individual liberty and the social control of sexuality.…

Añadir al carritoSoftcover. Condición: Very Good. An album of late 19th century dance sheet music. Folio. Around 120 to 150 pages. Quarter black leather cloth covered boards, leather spine with raised bands tooled with gilt in six compartments with "Dances" in gilt at the top of the spine, the initials "N.L.D" in gilt on the front board, and blue endpapers. Worn boards and spine with the foot of the spine coming loose, both the front and rear hinge have been repaired, some loss of the front fly leaf, toned endpapers, and a few tears throughout but there is no loss of the sheet music which remains bright and clean, a few with an owner name or music shop stamp on the front cover, and one song may possibly have the wrong cover ("Lachtaubchen: La Rieuse"), overall very good. The album consists of 30 instrumental dance pieces for the piano, many being schottisches and lancers. The collection includes many seemingly uncommon to rare pieces which are either unrecorded by *OCLC* or located in very small numbers, and almost every piece is bound with its original front cover (some include rear covers featuring ads as well). Highlights include: "Possum Dance" (with engraved illustration of dancing possums on the front cover) by S. Bourgoin, published by J. Van Loan & Co., copyright 1982, unrecorded by *OCLC*. "New York Society Lancers" (dedicated to The Ladies of New York) by J.S. Cox, published by J. Van Loan & Co., copyright 1889, unrecorded by *OCLC*. "Dance Music from Mikado" (with an elaborately engraved illustration on the front cover) by George Wiegand, published by Wm. A. Pond & Co., copyright 1883, two in *OCLC* (a closed tear partially affecting the music though it remains complete). "Hot Time in the Old Town Schottische" (with a bold and colorful front cover illustration) by Theo. A. Metz, published by Willis, Woodward & Co., copyright 1897, three of the schottische in *OCLC*. "Society Yorke (As Danced in New York Society)" by W. Vincent Daly, published by J. Van-Loan & Co., copyright 1890, unrecorded by *OCLC*. And what appears to be an early edition of "Künstler-Quadrille" by Johann Strauss (with dampstaining along the top throughout), published by Carl Haslinger, no printed copyright, the text is in German so it's difficult to make out if this is the exact piece by Strauss or an interpretation of his work. The album also includes multiple pieces by the composers George Wiegand and Emil Waldteufel. A lovely collection of uncommon to rare late 19th century dance music. A complete list of titles is available upon request.…
