Soft cover. Condición: Poor. Limited Edition. Jaroslav Seifert (1901?1986) was a Nobel Prize?winning Czechoslovak writer, poet and journalist. In 1984 Jaroslav Seifert won the Nobel Prize in Literature "for his poetry which endowed with freshness, sensuality and rich inventiveness provides a liberating image of the indomitable spirit and versatility of man." However, it is virtually impossible to translate his poetry into another language from Czech because of his emphasis on devices of sound and musical technique. The attempt of these translation was to capture the spirit of the Czech language while keeping the rondel verse form. This is a bilingual edition so you can check the success of these efforts. (Be kind.) This First U.S. Edition, limited to 1,500 copies, was published in August 1985. Cover design and illustration by Richard McClintock. Photograph on rear cover by Miroslav Jodas. Pages not numbered. Now out of print. Softcover has staple binding. This copy has been wet at upper corner of page-edges. Dried without damage to legibility or any mold. Interior tight and unmarked. Very usable copy. Copyright 1985 for English Translation. Stated First U.S. Edition, limited to 1,500 copies, published in August 1985 in single printing. LCCN: 85-11907. ISBN: 0-930370-27-9. Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Paintedand engraved marks and images on rock surfaces represent the oldest and mostwidespread form of human expression. Found globally in its originallandscapes, with some images dating back fifty thousand years or more, theworld's rock art constitutes the most important body of latent knowledgeabout our deep past. Today, however, mass tourism, vandalism, theft, landdevelopment, and climate change are posing increasingly dire threats to thisirreplaceable heritage. This richly illustrated volume, the ninth to appear in the Getty Conservation Institute's award-winningReadings in Conservation series, is the first interdisciplinary anthology tofocus on the conservation and management of rock art sites. Its 133 readings surveythe arc of published writings on the subject, ranging from early academictheories and oral narratives of Traditional peoples to an abundant selectionof recent scholarship covering current best practices and advances inportable instrumentation that can be used in the field. The book is dividedinto nine parts. Initial sections probe the origins and significance of theseoften-enigmatic forms, then survey scientific and technological methods ofdating, monitoring, and documenting them. Subsequent readings discuss rockart's physical characteristics and weathering, its importance to Indigenouscommunities, the decolonization of site management, the role of governments, the value of public outreach, and climate change. The volume closes with a selectionof case studies drawn from major sites worldwide. Thiswide-ranging anthology of notable writings by archaeologists, scientists, conservators, and other researchers is an indispensable guide to theconservation and management of rock art sites. "The magic and majesty of North America's greatest western fly-fishing rivers. Flywater brings us to these iconic waters anew - the creeks, springs, and freestone rivers that make the West the world's premiere destination for fly fishing. McClintock's careful eye strikes a chord with fishermen as he takes the reader to these fabulous places - from the storied Henry's Fork to the Yellowstone to the Thompson River in British Columbia. With extraordinary photography and wisdom, McClintock visits his home waters and discovers countless others as well. For the serous fly fisherman, this is an album of shared experiences. For the uninitiated, it is an artfully crafted guidebook to an exotic new world that really does exist on the streams and rivers of the West. With more than 200 photographs, Flywater is a gallery of moments. McClintock's rich photos create a compelling journey that the reader, whether fisherman or not, will thoroughly enjoy." - from the inner front jacket flap.
