Añadir al carritoWraps. Condición: Very good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. Quarto. i, [1], 15, [3] pages. Footnotes. Illustrations (some with color). Bibliography. The U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) defines a cost estimate as, "the summation of individual cost elements, using established methods and valid data, to estimate the future costs of a program, based on what is known today." The GAO reports that "realistic cost estimating was imperative when making wise decisions in acquiring new systems." A cost estimate is often needed to support evaluations of project feasibility or funding requirements in support of planning. A cost estimate is often used to establish a budget as the cost constraint for a project or operation. In project management, project cost management is a major functional division. Cost estimating is one of three activities performed in project cost management. This work was accepted for Proceedings & Conference Publication at Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) Annual Conference, June 30 2015 & Military Operations Research Society (MORS) Annual Symposium, June 25, 2015. The U.S. nuclear stockpile includes both active and inactive warheads. Active warheads include strategic and non-strategic weapons maintained in an operational, ready-for-use configuration, warheads that must be ready for possible deployment within a short timeframe. Inactive warheads are maintained in a non-operational status at depots. Although the current number of nuclear weapons is classified, the Department of Defense released the historical stockpile quantities. As of September 30, 2009, the U.S. stockpile of nuclear weapons consisted of 5,113 warheads. This number represents an 84 percent reduction from the stockpile's maximum (31,255) at the end of fiscal year 1967, and over a 75 percent reduction from its level (22,217) when the Berlin Wall fell in late 1989. The cost estimation methodology presented in this paper provides planning estimates for Life Extension Programs (LEPs) for the nuclear weapons managed by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The estimates contain planned costs, by each stockpile system, for the U.S. deterrent for 25 years. The cost model used to produce these estimates is divided into two parts: development and production. Development costs are estimated using complexity factors derived from comparisons with prior system LEPs, along with a modified Rayleigh distribution informed by historic cost actuals. Production costs are based on anticipated production schedules and quantities, along with a variation of the Crawford model for learning curves.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Philosophers usually have been anxious to avoid solipsism. A large number of good and great philosophers have tried to refute it. Of course, these philosophers have not always had the same target in mind and, like everything else, solipsism over the centuries has become increasingly elusive and subtle. In this book I undertake to state the position in its most modern and what I take to be its most plausible form. At some points in the history of philosophy the solipsist has been one who denied the existence of everything except himself or even the existence of everything except his own present sensations. At other times, the solipsist instead of doubting these things has merely insisted that there could be no good reason for believing in the existence of anything beyond one's own present sensations. Roughly, this doubt is aimed at reasons rather than at things. A solipsist of this sort appears in Santayana's Scepticism and Animal Faith.…

Any working art critic inevitably acquires an extensive knowledge of this genre of printed ephemera. Heralding gallery and museum shows, invitations flood the mailbox, crowd the desk and all too often accumulate so intractably on the kitchen counter as to seem part of the decor. You can't live with them, and until the show is over, you can't throw them out. Still, life without such art-world byproducts would be a lot more difficult. Not only do they convey the important facts -- the who, when and where -- of shows that need to be seen. They're also advertisements bent on seducing us into attendance by being clever, eye-catching or provocative -- although sometimes they nip interest in the bud. (There's probably no art lover with mailing-list credentials who hasn't held up some gallery announcement and said, "Forget it!") Invitations are style statements in a minor key, ancillary artworks of a collective sort. Designed by artists, by graphic designers, by art dealers and museum curators -- usually a combination of the above -- they are the advance guard for the real thing. Their merit is judged in the very act of reading one's mail." -- Roberta Smith, "Art Invitations As Small Scraps Of History," New York Times, May 16, 1993. Very Good. Light edge wear.
