"John Gardner is perhaps America's most important spokesperson of moral and cultural values in literature. He strongly believes in the view that true art is essentially moral. In his fiction, he takes up the cause of traditional values and wages a battle against man's tendency to shirk from personal and moral responsibility. The present book studies the theme of affirmation which is prominent and recurring in his novels. It provides an indispensable guide to the theme and philosophy of the novelist and offers new insights into his fiction." (jacket)No. 23907 174 pp.…

Paperback. Condición: New. Language: English. About The Book: This History of Telugu Dalit Literature is the first book of its kind in English. It mainly focuses on the Telugu Dalit Literature produced after 1980s. Dalit writers are earnestly desirous to remove the social exploitation and caste inequalities. They wish to falsify the view that literature leaves the world as it is. They wish to change the world. Through literature they are reexamining and redefining their place in Indian society. Dalit literature primarily focuses on fundamental human rights and human values. Energized by an aggressive expression Dalit Literature protests against the established unjust and graded social order and also rejects the religious and traditional hegemony. In Andhra Pradesh, the powerful Dalit Literature originated mainly from the atrocities on Dalits in Karamchedu (1985) and Tsunduru/ Chunduru (1991). The Dalit movements sprouted when the constitutional remedies failed and social democracy unrealized. This book, it is hoped, is particularly useful for all the nonTelugu scholars and students of literature in India and other countries. The brief biographical sketches of well known as well as lesser known writers are given due space. This work is also useful for comparative studies in subaltern literatures. About The Author: Thummapudi Bharathi, is Associate Professor in the Department of English and Coordinator of the Centre for Ambedkar Studies, Sri Padmavti Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati. She is a Post Graduate in Psychology and Philosophy and Religion besides English Literature. She is interested in the areas of American Literature and Commonwealth Writing. Currently she is working on Translations and Dalit Literature. Dr. Bharathi is the recipient of Olive I. Reddick (Junior) award for 2003 from IACIS and IUC Associate at the Indian Institute of Advanced Study Shimla. She has presented 23 research papers in the international and national conferences and has published 21 papers in various journals and books so far. She is the author of Contemporary Telugu Short Stories (Translation) (2001) and The Novel of John Gardner (2002). Thummapudi Bharathi is on the editorial board of Replica, a literary Journal published form Orissa. She received Honourary Life Membership 2004 from Met Verse Muse, a journal committed for structured verse of world poets published from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. She is at present actively directing and participating in Ambedkar Studies in her University. Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -The first part of the book mainly concentrates on Dalits in the context of Indian secularism, social justice and human rights. It also includes Dalit feminism. The Second part presents Dalit movement in Andhra Pradesh prior to 2014. The roots for social, economic and cultural marginalization of Dalits are in Hinduism. Dalits are kept in ignorance about their suppression and exclusion by the society intentionally by the so called Indian leaders both in the pre and post independent period. Now the fight is for Dalit identity, rights and social justice, which were denied deliberately for centuries. Dalits live in the world of abnormality as they are never allowed to experience the democratic values, though India claims to be a democracy. The main stream society consistently tries to prove Dalits as meritless. Dalit women are the worst exploited beings in the Indian society. Dalit movement that started with the slogan of self respect is now aiming at political power. The Brahmanic society wantonly curbs the Dalit progress even in the twenty first century. The main argument of the book is that purposely and consciously Dalits are excluded from contributing for the national development. 180 pp. Englisch.…
