"THE TRAINER" PROLOGUE It is my intent to provide ideas and training tools that may assist soldiers in conducting realistic training that will challenge the soldier. Soldiers know the difference between quality and quantity. Providing quality training is at times challenging but it is a must if we are to be successful on the battlefield. Having held all leadership positions from squad leader to First Sergeant, I can relate to the challenges we face as soldiers and leaders in providing quality training. The keys to a successful training program are organization and leadership. The methods and tools displayed in this book are some of the building blocks I used to achieve a successful and challenging training program. Throughout my career the soldiers under my responsibility were consistently recognized as providing/conducting exceptional training. Our accomplishments included: consistently being identified as the element with an exceptional maintenance program; winning the USAREUR Army Award for Maintenance Excellence (AAME); placing second in the Department of the Army AAME competition; winning the best NEC team competition during a battalion lane competition; and being featured as the showpiece for training in Europe on the "USAREUR Today"show. As a leader I provided the motivation, standard, and direction. My soldiers did the rest and they normally exceeded the standard. This book covers various tools, worksheets, and methods of training I have utilized or encountered during my career. Where possible I attempted to provide applicable ARs, FMs and TCs that I believe are important or beneficial. I will try to provide the reader with an overview of training from APFT to weapons training. As mentioned previously, leaders are the key to successful training. An unmotivated or apathetic leader cannot be tolerated. As leaders we have an obligation to ensure that our soldiers are properly trained and equipped to ensure mission success. Poor leadership frustrates the soldier and can destroy a cohesive team. 168 pages.

A unique and intimate survey of the lives and work of 12 of our most acclaimed writers: Patricia Grace, Tessa Duder, Owen Marshall, Philip Temple, David Hill, Joy Cowley, Vincent O'Sullivan, Albert Wendt, Marilyn Duckworth, Chris Else, Fiona Kidman and Witi Ihimaera. As a group they are now the `elders' of New Zealand literature; they forged the path for the current generation. These interviews reveal not just the grand moments of their careers but also the defeats and disappointments. There are also stories about the enabling and symbiotic role of editors and publishers, showing how key industry figures have played a critical role in shaping New Zealand's literary landscape. They also share some advice on writing. Magnificent portraits by distinguished photographer John McDermott complete the package. Candid conversations with 12 writers who helped shape New Zealand literature Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Añadir al carritoSoft cover. Condición: Very Good. 1st Edition. A very good clean copy which feels unread. Between the Lives: Partners in Art is a fascinating book about artists who are also intimate partners. It takes nine well-known New Zealand couples and explores many aspects of their lives but particularly how the partnership affects the art they produce. Written by perceptive and knowledgeable writers but never narrowly academic, it combines the pleasures of gossip with illuminating information about how these artists have conducted their lives. In presenting the work in this unusual context the nine writers cast fresh light on paintings, poems and films and make a significant contribution to our understanding of how art has been produced in this country. Repeated themes are the situation of women and the strains of producing serious art in a small and isolated country. There are also contrasts, which are equally striking, as different couples have negotiated their own ways of accommodating two powerful creative talents. The partners include the Hanlys, McCahons, Siddells, Hodgkins and Richmond, Baxters, Smithymans, Haywards, Woollastons, Campbells -- nine painters, six poets, two filmmakers and a photographer. The accompanying images, selected by the writers, powerfully enhance and extend the insights of the texts.
