Hardback. Condición: New. NO JUSTICE tells the story of a young black man, Robbie Tolan, who was gunned down on his parents' front lawn simply because a white officer failed to follow procedure. And it almost cost him his life.ROBBIE TOLAN, son of 14-year Major League Veteran Bobby Tolan, was a baseball standout at Bellaire High… School in Houston, TX. Signing with the Washington Nationals, with dreams of following in his father's footsteps, Robbie's life was destroyed because white Bellaire police officers falsely suspected him of driving a stolen car. Innocent, and instead of being given a chance to defend himself, Robbie was shot inches from his heart in front of his pleading mother and father. Despite the unlikely chances of survival, and grim expectations by doctors, Robbie beat all the odds. He survived the shooting, but his dreams of a major league career did not. The bullet remains in his back as a reminder of the racial profiling that nearly cost him his life. That night transformed a tragedy into a call of justice; not only for Robbie but for the other black men and women being targeted by white police officers who have not had the same outcome. They have been killed over simple excuses, whether jaywalking by Michael Brown, or making an illegal lane change with Sandra Bland. Robbie Tolan's story emphasizes that that it doesn't end with the police encounter. Robbie's hope with this book is to help keep the dialogue alive to find a way to stop police from reaching for their guns when they're not 100 percent certain of the criminal, the crime, or the threat. NO JUSTICE is a poignant, gripping book that sits squarely in the crosshairs of race, police violence, racial profiling, and the ongoing discussion about why African Americans are disproportionately affected by violent police interactions. Finally, a black victim of police violence has lived to speak for those who were killed. And Robbie has something important to say. His case was a precedent setting. It was the first Supreme Court ruling on a race since Brown vs. Board of Education, and thousands of cases have now been heard because of this ruling. The bullet that did not kill him will create justice for others.

loose_leaf. Condición: Fine. Prima edizione (First Edition). Cm 15x20. pp. 12. . Ottimo (Fine). . Prima edizion…e (First Edition). . - Robbie Lawrence. Book.

Hardcover. Condición: As New. 1st Edition. One hardback book and one singer-sewn book, both housed in a silk-screened slipcase, vol. 1 120p, Vol 2 48p : illustrations (also in color) ; 31 cm. Fine/as new. "For the past five years, Robbie Lawrence has travelled throughout Scotland and the United States photographing the Highland…Games. His highly anticipated new book Long Walk Home examines the cultural significance of the traditional community tournament and questions the very notion of what it is to be from a place."The Games have always interested me, not just visually, but also as a vehicle for considering how we as Scots allow history to inform our modern identity. At first, I struggled to look past the myth-making and nationalism often espoused in the Games. I was trying to document these events objectively, without clarifying how I felt about them. What you see in the pages of these two volumes is an attempt to engage with the myriad of fabricated ideas surrounding the modern Highland Games. Whether on a dusty sports field in Denver or at the local park at Burntisland, the Games is at its core a coming together of friends and family to enjoy sports, dance and music." - Robbie LawrencePresented as a limited edition double-volume publication, including a hardback book of candid images of the Games, and a second Singer-sewn volume of portraits of the Games participants, alongside an extended text by award-winning poet John Burnside, which teases apart the threads of how Scots and the Scottish diaspora have remoulded the form of the Games to suit their cultural needs. Burnside passed away shortly after completing his beautiful text."We do not need to be born in a place - we do not even need to have seen it - to enter into its mythology, because myths are not historical. Myths are elective - not at the level of consciousness, not as an informed, self-aware choice, but as the expression of something more fundamental and, at the same time, more lyrical. History is what sets us in our place, binding us to social norms and conventions and limits; myths let us roam, they make space for the imagination, for re-invention, for a sense of belonging that is not conferred by a clan name, or a verified birth certificate - and by now, in much of the world, including Scotland, Scottishness is as much myth as it is history, which means that we must guard it carefully, retell it beautifully and, more than anything else, love it wisely." - John Burnside" -- from publisher's website.

paperback. Condición: As New. Sono disponibili 4 soggetti Design: The Entente. Stampa: EBS, Verona. Cm 23x…17. pp. 134. Firma autografa dell'Autore (Signed by the Author). Perfetto (Mint). . Prima edizione di 10 esemplari originali con fotografia (First Edition of 10 copies with original photo). . Prima edizione di 10 esemplari originali con fotografia (First Edition of 10 copies with original photo). Book.
