The cover lettering for this volume is in black and silver. The interior of the volume is clean, bright and without marks. The boards have light surface and edge wear. This First Edition was limited to 3000 copies. The text of this volume is in English and German.

Doch selbst wenn das "more" nur darauf hindeuten sollte, daß man hier auch Menschen begegnet, die ihr Geld statt mit Jazz mit Pop, Literatur, Fotografie oder Film verdienen, wäre der Titel noch gerechtfertigt. Denn auch die Bilder der Jazzmusiker zeigen mehr als das, was üblicherweise auf solchen Aufnahmen zu bewundern ist. Dort sieht man Musiker meist so, wie das Publikum sie erlebt, also auf der Bühne: ins Spiel versunken oder in exzentrischen Posen, überm Kabelgestrüpp oder hinter Wäldern von Mikrophonen und technischem Gerät. Ralph Quinke, so scheint es, hat an diesem Anblick und an seiner Aufbewahrung mit der Kamera kein Interesse (mehr). Das Konzert als fotografischer Anlaß kommt kaum vor. Wenig mehr als ein Dutzend Bilder in diesem Band zeigen Menschen mit ihrem Instrument. Halten sie doch einmal eins, dann spielen sie fast nie darauf. Der Fotograf enthält dem Betrachter die Aura vor, die den Musiker und sein Instrument sonst gern umweht. Er gewinnt dieser Beziehung lieber komische Aspekte ab: Das Bild des wuschel köpf igen Trommlers Michael DiPasqua zwischen zwei Becken ist eine Kreis-Etüde von dezentem Witz, und auch der Anblick der vom Weitwinkelobjektiv grotesk verbogenen Posaune, hinter der sich George Lewis klein macht, ist eher lustig. Sonst zeigen Quinkes Bilder Männer bei der Arbeit; ihre Instrumente sind Werkzeuge, weiter nichts. Ruhig und konzentriert vollzieht Albert Mangelsdorff in einer Garderobe seine Exerzitien auf der Posaune. Und von Daniel Humairs Instrument bekommen wir gar nur die Hülle gezeigt. Mit der schweren Tasche, der er seine Becken transportiert, eilt er am Fotografen vorbei. .
