Taschenbuch. Condición: Sehr gut. Gebraucht - Sehr gut SG - leichte Beschädigungen oder Verschmutzungen, ungelesenes Mängelexemplar, gestempelt, Versand Büchersendung - At the beginning of the Nigeria-Biafra war, Lieutenant Colonel Yakubu Gowon, the Head of Federal Military Government of Nigeria, bragged that Biafra would be crushed within two weeks of surgical operation. At Dodan Barracks, Gowon in a press conference (September 13, 1968) told reporters that the war would be over in 4 to 8 weeks. The Federal Military Government expected a quick victory, but by the end of April 1969, after two years of bloody, destructive, and nonconventional war, the envisioned quick victory eluded Nigeria; and Biafrans were still holding on. Even with the support of Nigeria by world powers such as Britain and Soviet Union, that supplied heavy weapons, Biafra wrestled with Nigeria for 30 months. People are still bamboozled and mesmerized that the Nigeria-Biafra war lasted so long beyond Gowon s predictions, and that Biafra would have won the war if not for the overwhelming support (especially militarily) of Nigerian Military Government by Britain and the Soviet Union, as well as Egyptian and Arab pilots who frequently bombed and harassed civilians instead of military targets. No other racial/ethnic group in Nigeria can muster the same resistance as Ndigbo. …

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - Providing culturally sensitive health care to diverse population of immigrant Nigerian men would be enhanced by better understanding their experiences with the health care system and their perceptions of health, wellness, and illness. Immigrant Nigerian men are visually classified as African Americans and perceived as having similar attitudes, beliefs, and health-seeking behaviors. Statistics portrays that many of the chronic and infectious diseases that disproportionately affect African Americans (such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, hepatitis B, and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) are burdensome to African immigrants, including immigrant Nigerian men. African immigrants are three times more likely to be infected by hepatitis B virus than Asian immigrants, and four times more likely to infected than European immigrants. However, unlike African Americans, immigrant Nigerian men also have other unique health needs. Preventive health strategies used for African Americans can be applied to immigrant Nigerian men; however, accessibility to health insurance poses unique challenges to them.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Birds of a feather flock together as a survival strategy, or safety in number tactics through reducing the risk of predation. It is easier to fend off predators through flocking together of metrological specimens of identical plumage. Religious organizations such as Saint Simon's Church, Ikperejere, Saint John's Episcopal, Fayetteville, and Beth Israel Synagogue, Fayetteville, survived for centuries because of flocking together of the members. Identical plumage enhanced their common bonds. When applied to people, the above idiomatic expression means that people who are similar in ethnicity, education, career, occupation, and gender tend to spend time with each other. People of similar taste and disposition crave each other's company. That explains why people who are members of an ethnic group associate primarily with their racial group. Some evidences of this exist in big cities like Chicago, New York, Los Angeles and Miami where one will almost always find a segment of the city that has neighborhoods such as China town, Little Havana, Greek town, Little Italy, etc. 184 pp. Englisch.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The eugenics movement which emerged in Europe and the United States around the turn of the last century was rooted in assumptions about the existence of distinct biological races, with Anglo-Saxon societies as the civilizing bedrock of modernity. Supporters of eugenics advocated policies of segregation and apartheid in order to protect the well-born from contamination. Its leaders believed that a variety of social successes (wealth, political leadership, intellectual discoveries) and social problems (poverty, illegitimacy, crime, mental illness, and unemployment) could be traced to inherited, biological attributes associated with racial temperament . Is there any other conclusion, asked a popular 1926 textbook, that the Negro lacks in his germ plasm excellence of qualities which the white race possesses, and which are essential for success in competition with the white races at the present day. Eugenics, not surprisingly, targeted the traditional victims of racism-Jews, Gypsies, Blacks/African Americans, Indians and other minorities, especially in rural areas, on ground that they constituted a distinct and degenerate racial typology.…
