As Japan is the only devel-oped country in the top ten smoking statistic, with a male smoking rate of close to 50%, the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has pushed and driven a 40% tobacco tax hike with the aim of discouraging smokers. Further on, economical aspects on tobacco consumption are analyzed in general and with respect to tobacco tax hikes. The relations are explained on supply and demand curves utilizing given elasticity factors of tobacco demand from the OTC.Due to the rather inelastic demand of tobacco which is mainly supported by its addictive nature, tax raises will have different effects depending on the age of smokers but mainly depending on social aspects. A tax raise will cause a higher quite rate in developing countries with a low or mid income such as China for instance compared to developed ones like Japan. On the other hand, in devel-oped countries the gain in tax revenue will be higher compared to developing countries. At the end of the assignment tax strategies aiming for higher tax revenue or aiming for a lower smoking rate are discussed besides general aspects.

The measurement technique for vector network analyzers, firstly presented at the European Microwave conference in 2002 in Milan, Italy, allows to do fundamental device characterization of transistors and amplifiers in a non 50 ohm environment without the need for passive impedance tuners by simply utilizing two independent sources of a vector network analyzer. Up to now, only hybrid systems, combinations of active and passive impedance tun-ers, are realized to perform such measurements. The aim of the project is to develop a purely active system with known limitations in terms of power firstly and with the goal to gain knowledge and inputs for further developments sec-ondly.The considerations of this paper are dealing with expected forecast numbers for the software option and additionally sold vector network analyzer hardware in order to calculate the cash flow and the net present value of the project. Additionally the costs of goods sold plus maintenance and service costs are considered. For the expected project time, 5 years plus 6 month of development, the project related income statement is given together with a balance sheet. The conclusion of the development proposal is to accept the project due to a positive net present value and mainly due to the strategic importance for further vector network analyzer developments and an increased company reputation in the market.

Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2011 in the subject Leadership and Human Resource Management - Miscellaneous, grade: 2.0, University of applied sciences, Munich, course: MBA, language: English, abstract: The objective of this paper is to provide John Maynard, head of the human resource department of Tamiflex, with a sound recommendation whether he should accept Marit Iyang's application for the position as the head of the new sales department in Bangalore, India. Iyang, born in India and currently working as a sales manager in the company's German headquarter, is highly qualified for the job due to her MBA-degree and three years of working experience as an expatriate in a sales office in China. Marit Iyang's possible compensation as an expatriate manager in Bangalore is calculated using the balance sheet approach and considering the COLA index. In contrast the salary of a local sales manager with comparable qualifications is evaluated with an empirical, self-made survey. While Iyang's compensation consisting of a base salary, cost of living allowance, overseas service premium, hardship allowance and housing allowance would add up to EUR 129,312, the total annual costs for a local sales manager would not exceed EUR 15,000. Thus the labor costs for Iyang are significantly higher but the company would benefit from her local background as well as from her working experience in the headquarter of Tamiflex. Marit Iyang should definitely be assigned as the head of the sales department in Bangalore, India.
