Añadir al carritoAn original black and white photograph of the 1967 Warren Supreme Court, boldly signed by all nine justices. A group portrait showing the justices in two rows, signed in the blank lower margin, each justice near his own portrait:Â Abe Fortas, Potter Stewart, Byron White, Thurgood Marshall, John Marshall Harlan, Hugo Black, Earl Warren, William O. Douglas, and William J. Brennan. In near fine condition. The photograph measures 8 inches by 10 inches. The Warren Court refers to the Supreme Court of the United States from 1953 to 1969, the years in which Earl Warren served as Chief Justice. One of the most transformative periods in the Court's history, the Warren Court handed down a series of landmark decisions that reshaped American life, from Brown v. Board of Education, which struck down racial segregation in public schools, to Gideon v. Wainwright, Miranda v. Arizona, and Reynolds v. Sims. This photograph captures the Court near the end of the Warren era, following the 1967 appointment of Thurgood Marshall, the great civil rights lawyer who had argued Brown before the Court and who became the first African American to serve as a Justice of the Supreme Court.…

Añadir al carritoAn oversized black and white photograph of the Rehnquist Supreme Court, signed by all nine justices. A candid image capturing the justices sharing a laugh, reportedly reacting to a joke by Justice Brennan during a break in a formal portrait session in the East Conference Room in 1986. Boldly signed on the mount below the image in black ink, each justice near his or her own portrait, by Sandra Day O'Connor, Lewis F. Powell Jr., John Paul Stevens, Antonin Scalia, Thurgood Marshall, William J. Brennan Jr., William H. Rehnquist, Byron R. White, and Harry A. Blackmun. A brief typed note affixed to the verso requests that the justices sign the photograph for the Public Information Office. In very good condition. The entire piece measures 12.75 inches by 17.5 inches. Rare. The Rehnquist Court refers to the Supreme Court of the United States from 1986 to 2005, the years in which William H. Rehnquist served as Chief Justice. Elevated from Associate Justice to succeed Warren Burger, Rehnquist presided over a Court generally regarded as more conservative than the Burger and Warren Courts before it, advancing a philosophy of New Federalism that sought to return certain powers to the states. This photograph captures the Court in its earliest form under Rehnquist, when Antonin Scalia had only just joined and Lewis F. Powell, Thurgood Marshall, and William J. Brennan, three towering figures of the twentieth-century Court, were all still serving. Powell would retire in 1987, followed in time by Marshall and Brennan, which makes a fully signed image of this particular bench especially desirable.…

Añadir al carritoFirst edition of this glimpse into the personalities of the justices of the Warren Court. Quarto, original publisher's cloth, illustrated with two intimate portraits of each justice by Yousuf Karsh. Association copy, inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper to celebrated portrait photographer Yousuf Karsh, "To Yousuf Karsh with good wishes John P. Frank." With a note laid in from Frank, "Dear Yousuf - You will find an autograph in here for you from each of the Justices. Regards, JPF." Additionally signed by each Justice and inscribed to Karsh beside their portraits, in order of appearance: Earl Warren, Hugo L. Black, William O. Douglas, Tom C. Clark, John Marshall Harlan, William Brennan, Potter Stewart, Bryan R. White, and Arthur J. Goldberg. The recipient, Yousuf Karsh, is recognized as one of the leading photographers of the twentieth century. Arriving in Canada in 1924 as an Armenian refugee, Karsh eventually settled in Ottawa. Over six decades, he mastered the art of portraiture and created a unique chronicle of his time through images of celebrated legends. Some of his most notable subjects include Winston Churchill, Audrey Hepburn, Martin Luther King, Jr., John F. Kennedy, and Ernest Hemingway, among others. A celebrity in his own right, he was an elegant and charming public figure, captivating audiences with compelling stories told in images and words. Karsh sought to capture, as he put it, the âelusive moment of truth,â revealing the essential nature of his subjects as reflected in their eyes, hands, and attitudes. From the collection of Yousuf Karsh with his estate label to the front pastedown. Held by the Estate of Yousuf & Estrellita Karsh; after Yousufâs death in 2002 passing to Estrellita Karsh; after Estrellitaâs death in March 2025 passing to Katherine Getchell. Near fine in a very good dust jacket with rubbing and a small closed tear to the crown of the spine. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Estrellita Karsh Estate. A unique piece of history. The Warren Court during the period from October 1967 to May 1969 represented the culmination of the Courtâs liberal constitutional revolution. This lineup presided over several landmark decisions that reinforced civil liberties and the rights of the accused. In Katz v. United States (1967), the Court expanded Fourth Amendment protections to include electronic surveillance, holding that the Constitution protects people, not just physical places. In Epperson v. Arkansas (1968), the justices struck down a state ban on teaching evolution, strengthening the Establishment Clause. Moreover, the Court advanced principles of racial equality and free expression, setting precedents that shaped American law well beyond Warrenâs retirement in 1969.…
