Survival communities often find themselves responding to their trauma in ways that prescribe strict patriarchal norms, promoting notions of gender binary and compulsory heterosexuality. Theologies of survival emerge from religious communities that must invest most, if not all, of their efforts into maintaining membership and preserving their religious thought and praxiswhich, the author argues, can have a strong impact on womens visibility and agency.
