Soft cover. Condición: New. 259 pages in Vietnamese : 23 cm. For the first time, Voices from the Second Republic of South Vietnam (1967-1975) is available fully translated into Vietnamese, providing critical documentation of the diverse careers of ten South Vietnamese officials, in their struggles to build and defend a constitut…ional democracy in the last years of the Vietnam War. The Republic of (South) Vietnam is commonly viewed as a unified entity throughout the two decades (195575) during which the United States was its main ally. However, domestic politics during that time followed a dynamic trajectory from authoritarianism to chaos to a relatively stable experiment in parliamentary democracy. The stereotype of South Vietnam that appears in most writings, both academic and popular, focuses on the first two periods to portray a caricature of a corrupt, unstable dictatorship and ignores what was achieved during the last eight years. The essays in Voices from the Second Republic of South Vietnam (19671975) come from those who strove to build a constitutional structure of representative government during a war for survival with a totalitarian state. Those committed to realizing a noncommunist Vietnamese future placed their hopes in the Second Republic, fought for it, and worked for its success. This book is a step in making their stories known. This new edition presents the original ten essays plus introduction by Keith W. Taylor fully translated into Vietnamese.

Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Life Hanging by a Thread: A Vietnamese Refugee Family's Journey of Fear, Faith, and Freedomby Quang MaIn the shadow of post-war Vietnam, one family's search for freedom unfolds like a gripping true-life thriller.Life Hanging by a Thread tells the extraordinary story of Quang Ma and his famil…y as they attempt three perilous escapes by boat across the South China Sea and one harrowing journey by land through Cambodia and Thailand to flee oppression, poverty, and fear. Their story spans the years from the fall of Saigon in 1975 to their long-awaited reunion in America. At just ten years old, Quang watches his world collapse as his family is forced to leave their home. What follows is a struggle for survival in a country where freedom has vanished and danger waits at every turn.Driven by faith and the unbreakable bonds of family, they risk everything on the open sea-where engines fail, hunger and thirst grow unbearable, and death often lies closer than land. Others endure a brutal overland journey through jungles and guarded borders, pursued by patrols and human traffickers.Scattered across continents, twelve members of one family struggle through years of separation, uncertainty, and waiting in refugee camps.Through vivid and intimate storytelling, Quang recounts unforgettable moments: - a father forced to become captain with no experience- a teenage sister protecting her younger brother against impossible odds- and the small miracles that kept hope alive-a hose of fresh water from a passing ship, a simple device that turned seawater into drinking water, and dolphins appearing just as rescue finally arrivedMore than a refugee story, this memoir is a powerful testament to faith, courage, and the resilience of the human spirit. From perilous journeys to tearful reunions on American soil, Life Hanging by a Thread reveals how a fragile thread of hope-woven through prayer, sacrifice, and kindness from strangers-can carry a family across oceans toward freedom.Perfect for readers of The Kite Runner, The Glass Castle, and Where the Wind Leads, this unforgettable memoir will move you with its raw honesty, suspense, and enduring hope.Discover the true cost of freedom-and the extraordinary strength ordinary people find when everything is on the line. 1975, Saigon's fall, a true story of a family risks everything on treacherous seas and jungles to escape oppression. Scattered across continents, they cling to a fragile thread that fueled by faith and the desperate dream of reunion. This item is printed on demand.
