The Walpole half of the Walpole - Mann correspondence which lasted some 46 years, from 1740 - 1786. The letters sent by Mann ( which are not in these volumes ) have in the past been described as 'dry & devoid of interest'. Wheras that sent by Walpole to Mann, ensconsed as he was at the Tuscan Court, are full of news and anecdote of England.
