Condición: Very Good. 3rd edition. Original pebble grained green cloth, VG. 3 volumes, lii+379pp, ht+tp+419pp, ht+tp+408pp, b/w frontis to volume I. index to the work in volume III. half titles to each volume, sporadic foxing to the text blocks with the titles, endpapers & frontis moreso, pages largely un-opened, paper lettering pieces browned with that to volume I chipped with some loss to the lettering to the R hand side, cloth to the spines yellowed, but still a nice set in original condition. The Walpole half of the Walpole - Mann correspondence which lasted some 46 years, from 1740 - 1786. The letters sent by Mann ( which are not in these volumes ) have in the past been described as 'dry & devoid of interest'. Wheras that sent by Walpole to Mann, ensconsed as he was at the Tuscan Court, are full of news and anecdote of England. Indeed it has been said that even if, of all Walpole's copious correspondence, only that sent to Mann had survived, his reputation as a man of letters would have been secured. These volumes contain 360 of Walpole's letters to Mann. 1600 grams.…

Leather. Condición: Good. SET OF THREE VOL. I, II, III of Polished Leather cover with five (5) raised bands on spine and gilt decorations. Gilt border around front and rear cover. Foxing to end paper in Vol. III Small chip from foot of spine and larger chip from right head of spine. Also a few more small chips down spine. Front cover is detached but present on Vol III. Whole 3 vol. set would benefit from mild restoration.…
