Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. This book documents possibilities and challenges associated with using Problem-Based Learning (PBL) strategies nationally and internationally. The authors draw on experiences and research from their specific educational contexts and fields. Discussing and choosing teaching and learning methodologies at universities is related to questions about the role of universities in the knowledge production process. These are questions that we find important to discuss at each level of the universities' organisational hierarchies in order to meet the challenges of educating academics for future workplaces. A related question is: How do we meet those challenges? At Aalborg University, one of the solutions is the use of the PBL methodology and principles as they have been developed within the Danish educational context. Aalborg University constitutes a specific context for practising PBL. As will become apparent from the contributions in this book, each university represents a specific and unique context for teaching and learning. Consequently, there are many aspects to consider if a university chooses to implement PBL methodologies. These include the specific societal and cultural conditions for practising PBL, specific subject areas, students' diverse backgrounds, and the teachers' qualifications. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Paperback. Condición: New. In The Aalborg PBL Model -- Progress, Diversity and Challenges, thirty teachers and researchers share their reflections on the practice of the problem-based and project-organised teaching model (PBL), which has been applied in the faculties of Engineering and Science, Humanities, and Social Science at Aalborg University since 1974. Since its initial implementation, the PBL mode has developed in several important ways. Most notably, the PBL model has developed considerably in relation to the specific nature of the given academic disciplines and become an integrated component of these disciplines. The Articles collected in this book seek to describe and explore this development, highlighting variations on the PBL as it was originally conceived and the challenges that have occurred during this journey. …

Paperback. Condición: New. 1st. Around the world, students in higher education suffer from and deal with psychosocial problems. This phenomenon is universal and seems to be increasing. A vast number of students enter higher education with problems like stress, anxiety or depression, or develop them during their student lives, due to, for example, loneliness, family crisis, mental health or study environment issues.Battling, belonging and recognition are the focal points of this book's analyses, showing how students faced with psychosocial problems experience high degrees of stigma and exclusion in the academic communities and society as such. The book is based on research situated in a welfare society, Denmark, where students have relatively easy access to higher education and to public support for education as well as special support for students with psychosocial problems. Taking a student perspective, the book provides in-depth, qualitative analyses of what characterizes student life, which specific psychosocial and other problems students experience, how problems are constructed, represented and become significant in relation to studying, and, not least, how students deal with them.It will be of great interest to researchers, academics and postgraduate students in the fields of educational psychology, sociology of education and higher education. It will also be of interest to supervisors and administrators in higher education.…
