Hardcover. Condición: New. 2nd Edition. Contents: 1. Basic Concepts and Introduction. 2. Blast Waves in Air. 3. Interaction of Blast Waves with Rigid and Non-rigid Bodies. 4. Energy Release and Rate of Energy Release. 5. Thermal Theory. 6. Propagation of Reaction Front. 7. Formation of Flames and Detonations. 8. Condensed Phase Explosions. 9. Unconfined and Confined Gas Phase Explosions. 10. Dust Explosions. 11. Physical Explosions and Rupture of Pressure Vessels. 12. TNT Equivalence and Yield. 13. Atmospheric Dispersion. 14. Quantification of Damages. A concise description is provided for the physical processes in explosions and formation of blast waves from explosions following which mathematical models are developed for energy release in explosions and the propagation of blast waves. Accidental and intentional explosions are analyzed using the models. These include confined, unconfined and partially confined gas-phase explosions, dust explosions, physical explosions, condensed phase explosions and rupture of pressure vessels including explosion of cryogenic vessels. The modeling of flammable fuel gases in the atmosphere is given along with the spread of pollutants and toxic gases from the source of explosion or otherwise. Quasi-detonations that comprise shock-compressed medium with deflagration occurring in it at the lower Chapman-Jouguet point are analyzed and compared with a Chapman-Jouguet detonation and a deflagration. The chemistry of condensed phase explosives is discussed and the yield of the explosions with TNT equivalence is given. Explosions over the ground in air and in water and interactions of blast wave with the surroundings are examined. The scaling with respect to the reflection, transmission and intensity of the explosion are discussed. Case studies, problems and their solutions are given for the different explosions.…

Hardcover. Condición: New. Contents: 1. Preliminary concepts and introduction. 2. Thermal ignition energy sources. 3. Chemical ignition energy sources. 4. Electrostatic ignition energy sources. 5. Shock waves as ignition sources. 6. Electromagnetic radiation ignition sources. 7. Formation of fires and explosions in solid combustibles. 8. Detonation of solid explosives. 9. Ignition of liquid fuels and explosives. 10. Ignition sources for confined and unconfined gaseous combustibles. 11. Unanticipated thermal ignition sources and threats. 12. Shock wave and impact threats for solid explosives. The present level of scientific advancement and technological innovations would not have been possible without fires, explosions and detonations; however, they also cause panic, fright and destruction. A large amount of scientific research work therefore continues on understanding, controlling and utilizing fires, explosions and detonations for the different applications. The recent wild forest fires, explosions and fires in hospitals and detonations from unintended sources have also motivated further work on mitigating their destructive influences. A fundamental study of the different ignition sources bringing about fires, explosions and detonations is presented in this book. Thermal, mechanical, chemical, electromagnetic radiation, electrostatic and shock wave energy sources are reviewed and their ability to initiate burning, explosions and detonations in solid, liquid and gaseous combustibles are dealt with. The confinement of the combustible plays a major role in its ignition and is considered for initiation of fires, explosions and detonations. The mitigation of explosions and detonations from the threats or insults of unintended ignition sources is also discussed. The book could serve as an invaluable reference for students in mechanical, aerospace, chemical and petroleum engineering specializing in combustion, detonation, explosions and safety. Working professionals involved in the manufacture, handling and application of high-energy materials for energy generation, propulsion and related areas and military and civilian personnel working in aerospace, mechanical, marine and chemical engineering would also find the book to be relevant and useful.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book discusses the different energy sources bringing about fires, explosions, and detonations in combustibles under different levels of confinement. Focus is on the initiation source for a combustible whether it is a gas, a liquid, or a solid in a given state of confinement. Incidents of oxygen-related fires in hospitals which were particularly evident with increased usage of oxygen therapy for the extremely ill COVID-19 patients in 2021 are discussed with details of formation, accumulation, and dissipation of charges and their discharges leading to fires and explosions. Sympathetic detonations, BLEVE explosions, cook-off tests of combustibles, the inadvertent ignition sources (threats), and their control are discussed. Sporadic Ignition of wildfires in a heat dome augmented by the reflection of expansion disturbances from the interfaces separating media of different acoustic impedances are explored. Spontaneous human combustion, pilot ignition, shock wave ignition, ignition of fuel droplets and conditions under which fires, explosions, and detonations take place are discussed. Different ways of mitigating the inadvertent initiation of explosions and detonations are given at the end.…
