Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good Minus. This book was originally published in 1939. From the dust jacket: 'The 1939 edition has been out of print and unavailable for many years. This re-issue, to which the present City Historian, Renoda Hoffman, has added an updating preface, will be welcome…d by a new generation of White Plains residents and by anyone interested in the history of Westchester County.' You can see the covers in the photos they are exceptionally clean. I don't see any soiling. The gilt lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The cover edges are in excellent shape. So are the cover corners. The top page edge has only a small number of tiny tan spots. The middle and bottom pages look very good. The book is solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages and nicely tight covers as well. The pages are exceptionally clean. There is a teeny tiny spot on the half-title page, and a tiny scratch on the title page. Scrolling through the pages, I'm not finding any soiling at all. The pages are also nicely bright. I'm also not finding any creasing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. There are nearly 100 photographs. The author, John Rosch, who you can see in the frontispiece, was a professional photographer. 'He captured scenes and houses during an era from which few visible mementos have been preserved. His numerous photos, taken during the 19th and early 20th century, are today priceless records of White Plains when it was still a village. Many of his pictures were used to illustrate this book.' All of the illustrations are in excellent condition. You can see the dust jacket in the first three photos. It has some wear, but is in pretty nice condition. There's a little toning at a few of the margins. The spine is toned. There is also some soiling on the spine. There are a couple of tiny losses at the spine ends. There are a couple of tiny edge tears. On the front cover there is a small area near the top of the photograph where it looks like there was a little penciling, but it doesn't respond to an eraser so I'm not sure what caused that. It's not very conspicuous. The flaps are in very nice condition, a little toning at their edges, no soiling, no tears. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I've always had it in a fitted protective cover.

Octavo, green cloth (hardcover), gilt lettering, xxii + 395 pp + Map of White Plains and Environs in 1776 + Bibliography. Fine in a Near Fine, mylar protected dust jacket with darkened spine. From dust jacket: This book fills a long-felt need for a 'History of White Plains' and it is befitting that it should appear not only duri…ng the year of America's Bicentennial but in time for the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of White Plains) Oct. 28, 1776), one of the battles that was of decisive importance in the Revolutionary War. John osch contributed perhaps more than anyone else toward recording White Plains' historic past. A professional photographer already at the time of "wet-plate" photography, he captured scenes and houses during an era from which few visible mementos have been preserved. His numerous photos, taken during the late 19th and early 20th century, are today priceless records of White Plains when it was till a village. Many of his pictures were used to illustrate this book. Originally published in 1939, 'Historic White Plains' has been out of print and unavailable for many years. This re-issue, to which the present City Historian, Renoda Hoffman, has added an updating preface, will be welcomed by a new generation of White Plains residents and by anyone interested in the history of Westchester County. New York, U. S. History, United States History, American History, Americana, U.S.-iana, Revolutionary War nslic.

Soft Cover. Condición: Good. First Edition. Turn-of-the-century photographic survey of the houses, parks, schools and churches of this suburb of New York City. Rosch was a professional photographer in White Plains and he has thoroughly surveyed the houses, churches, schools, parks, and wild areas of the rapidly growing town as i…t existed at the turn of the century. The text, with optimistic boosterish prose, is anonymous, but might be Rosch's--he was White Plains's unofficial amatuer historian a few decades later. Scarce. First edition. Folio; 48 pp.; illustrated from photographs. Wear to covers; else a good copy or better in original pictorial wrappers.
