Vintage studio still photograph from the 1935 film. Miriam Hopkins plays Mary Rutledge, a widow who begins working at the roulette wheel of a pub in San Francisco. She is tirelessly pursued by the club's owner, and she in turn pursues one of the clientele, a wealthy gold miner. A love triangle ensues, with rather violent consequences. Shot on location in California. 8 x 10 inches. Good, with creasing overall, pin holes to the corners,soiling to the verso, and a small closed tear to the right margin.

Includes six poems by the six poets who responded "WITH WILLING HANDS" to Tanning and Melby's request to "PLEASE WRITE US A POEM": "Weathering here" (Ammons), "Anthem" (Hecht), "Elementary Principles at 72" (Howard), "To Myself" (Merwin), "Wait" (Rich), and "Asides" (Wilbur). Seven 7 x 7" folding cards housed in pearlescent quadra-fold envelope with title in green on front and circular green sticker seal at back. Designed by Silvano Nova & printed in Brooklyn at the Rolling Press. Includes the colophon card and one card for each poet. The colophon card has title in green on front, note by Tanning about the project, list of the six poets, and colophon (no date of publication indicated by OCLC notes "Distributed by the Academy on December 13, 2004"). The six poets' cards are blank on the outside and open to their portrait by David Alexander facing a facsimile of their poem in their own hand over which is laid a translucent leaf printing the text. Fine condition. Although not indicated as such in the book, this copy from the collection of prize-winning poet laureate Anthony Hecht. A scarce to rare production, with OCLC locating only 5 copies.

The film is set in a New York newspaper office and tells its tale of romance and mayhem with some of the wittiest dialog of any screenplay of the era. The photo is in Near Fine vintage condition with some light handling wear . Reverse with studio photographer Irving Lippman's stamp, a studio snipe, a dated green "approved stamp," and a collector's sticker.
