Esta obra resulta do trabalho de vários investigadores nessa área. As problemáticas mais emergentes na sociedade são as que constituem ma…ior interesse de investigação e desafio para os investigadores. Uma das problemáticas a que se tem assistido nas últimas décadas é a obesidade infantil, a qual na maioria dos casos está associada ao sedentarismo e aos hábitos alimentares das crianças e adolescentes. A oferta de alimentos já processados facilita o dia-a-dia das famílias e tanto as atividades educativas quanto as de lazer remetem muitas vezes para práticas sedentárias. Para alterar essas rotinas pouco favoráveis ao desenvolvimento das crianças, a escola assume um papel chave, na medida em que pode intervir para mudar práticas e comportamentos, assim como para proporcionar aprendizagens promotoras de saúde. Além de dirigir estas abordagens aos seus alunos consegue ainda estendê-las à comunidade educativa alargada, essencialmente às famílias.
