Stapled wraps. Condición: Very Good-. Color Illustrations; This is an ephemeral giveaway from Richfield Oil Company (presumably for customers out west). This is a larger than trade sized paperback with illustrated covers and a stapled spine. The book is in Very Good- condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book covers have some light edge wear, rubbing and creasing. The covers themselves have some noticeable rubbing and light rippling (from some light water spotting). The text pages are generally clean and bright, though the text pages have some light general rippling as well. The rear book cover has a faded previous owner's inked name and address. "The Richfield Oil Corporation was founded in 1905, and opened its first automotive service station in Los Angeles in 1917. After quick expansion, Richfield Oil Corp fell to the Great Depression and went into receivership in 1931. Cities Service Company (now known as Citgo) offered one share of stock for every four Richfield's[6] and acquired a majority of the stock. Consolidated Oil Corporation (in 1943 renamed Sinclair Oil Corp) , in 1932, offered to buy Richfield Oil. While this offer was not accepted, Harry Ford Sinclair, president of Consolidated Oil, continued to pursue Richfield Oil and prevented Standard Oil of California (now known as Chevron) from taking over the company. Consolidated Oil Corp, in 1935, bought Richfield's eastern United States operations. This maneuver removed Standard Oil of California's interest in Richfield Oil. The east coast gas stations would later be rebranded as Sinclair stations. Richfield Oil Corp emerged from receivership in 1936, after Rio Grande controlled by Consolidated Oil Corp and Cities Service Company agreed to a merger between Richfield Oil and Rio Grande." ) (from Wikipedia).…

Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. This is the August 1896 issue of "The Book Buyer", which announced on each cover that the magazine was "A Summary of American and Foreign Literature. This issue is particularly rich, not only in textual content, but, also, in illustrative accompaniment. OF particular interest is the article on Friedrich Nietzsche, wherein Nietzsche demolishes Wagner. Also of interest, for the artistically inclined, is an article on naturalist, and illustrator William Hamilton Gibson, who had just recently died (in July 1896) . The cover design for "The Book Buyer", which remained the same through each of its issues, was drawn by American artist Will H. Low (Will Hicok Low). The picture was signed in the plate (lower right corner). TITLE : The Book Buyer — A Summary of American and Foreign Literature ISSUE : Vol. XIII, No. 7 DATE : August 1896 IMPRINT : Charles Scribner's Sons PLACE : New York STATUS : OP COVER ART : Will H. Low STATUS : OP PHYSICAL DETAILS : Illustrated Monthly Periodical; volume pages 389 - 432 + frontispiece, + four pages of promotional ads at front (50 pages in all). approximately 7 1/8" x 9 3/4"; pictorial wraps, stapled and glued, with rough-cut edges; front cover has a drawing in the classical mode of the Muse of Literature sitting on a ledge . arranged at her feet is an array of books and journals. The rear cover and the insides of the covers are devoted to advertisements. Inside, the text is printed on both calendered paper (polished - pressed) and uncalendered (or soft) paper. A considerable amount of interesting period advertising can be found at the front (4 pages)- and the back (8 pages - unopened). This is the original, in wraps as issued. CONDITION - VERY GOOD - This is a previously owned periodical which remains solid and attractive , the following particulars noted : There is a vague damp stain that displays at the fore-edge of the front cover about 2 inches from the top; modest surface rub and a touch of near-negligible weathering. There are small edge nicks and tears (none of which amount to much) ; on the rear cover are a couple of minute tea stains. Bottom fore-edge corners are creased, front and back. The interior is clean and unmarked. All and all, a very good specimen. Will H. Low, William Hamilton Gibson (ilustrador).…

Single Issue Magazine. Condición: Very Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Very Good Plus. First Edition. Chicago: Ziff-Davis, 1948. First Edition. Volume 10, No. 9. Cover illustration by Robert Gibson Jones, interior b&w illustrations by Jones, Ramon Naylor, Joe W. Tillotson, William A. Gray, and Julian Krupa . 9 1/2 x 7 1/4, 154 pp. Illustrated wraps. In rather remarkable condition. The number fifteen (as an old resale price) is marked on the cover, as is a faint pencil marking. A bit of curling damage at one part of the rear cover. Otherwise, all wear is of the very small sort which precludes itemization. A solid Very Good plus, and a copy which was described by its experienced previous owner as being, in fact, Fine, by the standards according to which such pulps are generally graded. Perhaps so, but it's Very Good Plus to me. Still, a very strong condition for its genre and age. A nice example of one of the more recognized pulp serials of the Golden Age of science fiction and fantasy. This issue features a cover illustration by Robert Gibson Jones for the lead story, "The Lavender Vine of Death (Don Wilcox). I think I have one of those in my back yard. Illustration depicts what appear to be a nobleman and a pirate reacting with some consternation to the approach of a gigantic.ummm.lavender vine, which appears to be crushing all that it encounters, not to exclude a skyscrapers, though the scene is set in the countryside. Fortunately for these two gentlemen, there is a well-constructed and fetchingly-clad young lady of the "Good Girl" sort, popular on covers of the era, to protect them. Besides Wilcox' short novel, stories herein include: "Dark Wish" (William P. McGivern); "Hildy Finds His Wings" (H.B. Hickey); The Key (a novelette)(Berkeley Livingston); "Reggie and the Vampire" (Gerald Vance); and "Freddie Funk's Flippant Fairies" (Frances Yerxa). Standard short features are also included. A handsome example of an All-American Genre. Lg8. Jones, Robert Gibson [cover];Ramon Naylor, Joe W. Tillotson, William A. Gray, and Julian Krupa (ilustrador).…

Soft cover. Condición: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Evanston, IL: Clark Publishing Company, 1954. Cover by Virgil Finlay. The October, 1954 issue of Fate Magazine (issue no. 55) in Raymond A. Palmer's now-legendary paranormal-reporting non-fiction enterprise, which began with, in its first issue, Kenneth Arnold's cover account of flying crescents which "skipped like saucers across a pond", an event which, for whatever reason, kicked off the modern era of UFO events. After that, Fate introduced countless events which remain, to this day, fodder for paranormal documentaries and investigation. 12mo, illustrated perfect-bound wraps, 130 pp. Near Fine, with a faint small-scale crease at top right of the front cover (see scan), which also faintly creases the first few page corners; micro-wear at a couple other points (see scan). High Grade, particularly for a periodical which often shows substantial wear from use. See scans. This issue features an entire section on Animal ESP, as well as articles on Precognition; Freakish Coincidence; Spontaneous Human Combustion; Ghosts; Psychic Healing; Race of Dwarves; Poltergeist, and much else, including the standard Departments, always engrossing in themselves. The great Virgil Finlay executed the titillating cover, which is also reproduced within, in black and white, in the subject article. Other interior art is largely uncredited or photographic. A piece of paranormal history, and an example of a unique branch of Americana, in very highly collectible condition. l48n. Finlay, Virgil (cover) (ilustrador).…
