Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This volume presents lectures given at the NATO Advanced Study Institute held 11-22 April 1988 at Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The aim of the Institute was to improve the interaction between workers in observational geomagnetism (using historical…data) and archaeo- and palaeo-magnetism (using the remanent magnetization of man-made artefacts and of natural sediments and rocks) and those trying to interpret the data in terms of mechanisms inside or outside the Earth, particularly those developing dynamo theories of the field. The material discussed ranged from magnetic bacteria swimming round a circle in a few seconds, the effect of El Nino, through secular variation with time scales of tens to thousands of years and the'mechanics of individual field reversals and excursions (aborted reversals ) to possible modulation of average reversal frequency on the hundred million year time scale. Many members of the Physics Department helped with the organization, and we are most grateful to them, and in particular to Anne Codling for her very many contributions. We also gratefully acknowledge the painstaking work of Aileen Dryburgh and Lynn Whiteford in so carefully typing the manuscript.

Blacker;Chats on Old Laceby Mrs. Lowes, the first edition of 1908; Chats on English Chinaby Arthur Hayden;Chats on Autographs by A. M. Broadley, the first edition of 1910;Chats on Jewellery and Trinketsby MacIver Percival, the first edition of 1912;English Earthenware by Arthur Hayden, the first edition of 1909;Chats on Cottage and Farmhouse Furniture by Arthur Hayden, the first edition of 1912, with a chapter on old English Chintzes by Hugh Phillips;Chats on Old Clocksby Arthur Hayden;Chats on Silverby Arthur Hayden; andChats on Old Furnitureby Arthur Hayden.Each book is embellished with numerous plates and line drawings in text as well as frontispieces, four in colour. Collated, complete, with the frontispiece to 'Cottage and Farmhouse' loose but present. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with only minor shelf wear and some bumping to the head and tail of the spine and extremities. The boards are only slightly soiled and the cloth to the spine has slightly faded to the volumes on 'Oriental China.' The rear joint of 'Old Lace and Needlework' is slightly cracked at the head of the spine. With A C Dundas bookplate to the front pastedown and an illustrated bookplate to the front free endpaper of English Earthenware.' Internally, firmly bound. With some minor light foxing scattered throughout to the earlier volumes, while the pages are generally bright and clean with the odd minor spotting to the later volumes. Each book is embellished with numerous plates and line drawings in text as well as frontispieces, four in colour. Collated, complete, with the frontispiece to 'Cottage and Farmhouse' loose but present. Very Good. Not Stated (ilustrador). book.
