Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Peter Ebsworth is a poet in love with the stage. In Krapp's Last Tape, he treads the line between the audience and the performer, an act of voyeurism and ventriloquism that results in tense snippets of verse only relieved by a tongue in cheek humour that is evident throughout. In his persona poems, he embodies a pantheon of pop culture gods and goddesses such as Marlon Brando, Sticky Vicky, the veteran Benidorm erotic entertainer, and Tony Soprano; in other poems he turns the gaze around to observe them as audience. Selected from literary output ranging over 30 years the tone swings from bullish to reflective, aptly mirroring the gamut of emotions that performers embody on stage. Krapp's Last Tape remains, however, firmly rooted in side stage drama - Ebsworth's interest in Pythagoras is focused on his role as a soldier rather than mathematician, and his girl has a lobster tattoo in place of the dragon of myth. Peter Ebsworth is a poet in love with the stage. Enlisting heavyweights such as Sarah Kane and Samuel Beckett to Sticky Vicky, the veteran Benidorm erotic entertainer, as extras, his debut collection, Krapp's Last Tape, shows him to be a true connoisseur of high and low culture. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.…

Hardcover. Condición: Very Good. Cumberland's British Theatre, Volume XII. London: John Cumberland, circa 1825. An attractive early nineteenth-century volume from John Cumberland's extensive British Theatre series, containing seven separately issued plays bound together: Peter Bayley's Orestes in Argos; Hide and Seek; Tribulation, or Unwelcome Visitors; The Rival Valets; Roses and Thorns; Midas; and Beaumont and Fletcher's Rule a Wife and Have a Wife. The individual plays were issued with theatrical commentary, biographical material, cast information, and illustrations relating to contemporary stage performances. Orestes in Argos includes the engraved theatrical portrait of Mr. Charles Kemble as Orestes and records the tragedy's performance at the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden, on April 20, 1825. Handsomely bound in full dark leather with elaborate gilt decoration to both boards and spine. Boards feature broad ornamental gilt borders, while the spine is richly gilt in compartments and simply titled "PLAYS." Decorative gilt turn-ins, blue endpapers, and gilt page edges complete the binding. Binding remains firm and solid, with boards securely attached. Leather shows light-to-moderate rubbing and wear at edges, corners, and spine extremities consistent with age, but the elaborate gilt decoration remains unusually strong and attractive. Interior is generally sound with expected age toning and occasional spotting. Previous ownership markings and a decorative bookplate appear at the front. A particularly handsome small-format example of Cumberland's British Theatre, with a substantially more decorative binding than normally encountered.…
