Hardback. Condición: New. The first comprehensive look at the nearly seven-decades-long career of contemporary Mexican American artist Virginia Jaramillo Over the course of her career, Virginia Jaramillo (b. 1939) has forged a pathway to exploring ideas and concepts of space through abstract paintings and handmade paper works influenced by her myriad interests including physics, the cosmos, mythology, ancient cultures, and modernist design philosophies. This beautifully illustrated volume demonstrates that despite having been historically excluded from the canon of American abstraction, Jaramillo has made profound contributions to the field.Virginia Jaramillo: Principle of Equivalence documents more than 60 works including early paintings that pushed the depth of the painted surface to its very limits; her innovations in the centuries-old practice of handmade papermaking; and recent bodies of work, where Jaramillo engages in deep investigations into antiquity and architectural ruin through large-scale paintings. In addition to an overview of Jaramillo's life and work, this comprehensive catalogue includes in-depth essays on the artist's formative years in Los Angeles, her forty-year devotion to hand papermaking, and the recent resurgence of her painting practice. An interview with Jaramillo rounds out the volume. Distributed for Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art Exhibition Schedule:Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO (June 1-August 27, 2023) MCA Chicago (May 4, 2024-January 5, 2025) Bechtler Museum (February 6-June 8, 2025).…

Añadir al carritostaple bound. Condición: Good. Savannah College of Art and Design, Savanna, Ga. [Published Date: 2009]. Paper covers, 36 pp. Catalogue of an exhibition held at Pinnacle Gallery from Jan. 7 - March 15, 2009 and Trois Gallery from March 23 - May 31, 2009. In good+ condition with bumping and creasing to edges and corners of covers and light overall scuffing. Binding tight (staple bound). Pages clean and unmarked. NOT Ex-Library. NO remainder marks. Biography, Exhibition list, bibliography. Color illustrations [From Introduction] This catalog is published on the occasion of the Mortality's Alchemist solo exhibition by artist Angelo Filomeno at SCAD. Mortality's Alchemist features a selection of embroidered and hand-blown glass works made between 2006 and 2008. This beautiful and barbed collection of work provides insight into Filomeno's poetic creative vision where hints of life and overtones of death coexist.Filomeno is an artist par excellence of the 21st century. His oeuvre communicates an emotional awareness, intimacy and immediacy that rarely comes together so effectively in art. He creates works that transport us to another realm. His choice of delicate materials (hand-blown glass and embroidery in this exhibition) further accentuates overtures to the ephemeral gifts of life. Additionally, his deft blending of fractured body parts shown alongside ominous sparkling landscapes provides viewers with a melancholy space for contemplation of larger human issues. Mortality's Alchemist premiered at the Pinnacle Gallery (Jan. 7-March 15,2009) in Savannah and subsequently traveled to the Trois Gallery in Atlanta (March 23-May 31, 2009) as part of SCAD's 30-year anniversary season. Filomeno's work complements and expands SCAD's exhibitions program that is committed to artistic diversity, innovation and originality, and it provides an educational forum for current trends in contemporary art.…
