Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. What happens when a group of people see things that others do not and begin acting accordingly? The Augmented Reality of Pokémon GO: Chronotopes, Moral Panic, and Other Complexities explores this question by examining what happened after Pokémon GO, a smartphone augmented reality game, was released in July, 2016. The game overlaid the world of Pokémon onto the "real" physical world, drawing 30 million players in the first two weeks. Pokémon GO has created new ways of sensing the environment, reading things around us, walking the street, and dwelling in certain areas, i.e., inhabiting the world. Through detailed text analyses of the game and auto-ethnographies of the contributing authors' experiences playing the game analyzed from anthropological perspectives, this volume provides nuanced analyses of this new way of relating to the world: the augmented reality world of Pokémon GO. Each chapter focuses on specific aspects of this new experience of the world: the cosmology of the world of Pokémon and the multifaceted ways we relate to our environment through Pokémon GO; the notion of space and time in Pokémon GO and its interface with that of real world as it guides our actions; the phenomenology of Pokémon GO in urban walking with its complex relationships to public space, "nature" as constructed through modernity, cell phone infrastructure, and urban landscapes where insects, animals, birds, human, history, transportation infrastructure, and trash all intermingle to create its ambiance; and the game's link to the wider social issue as it gets appropriated for "friendly authoritarian" goals of civil society, imposing various ideologies and accruing commercial gains. Through "participant observation" -all contributors have been avid Pokémon GO players themselves-this volume offers snapshots of the Pokémon GO effect from its initial stage as a social phenomenon to Spring 2018.

Añadir al carritoFirst edition. Perhaps unique copy of this publication on psychic phenomena with some interesting connections to the Zodiac murders. This pamphlet was published and sold by fanzine contributor and survivalist, Paul Doerr, who was identified and profiled by Jarrett Kobek in his 2022 bookHow to Find Zodiacand remains a credible suspect in the case. A large part of Kobek's argument came from examining Doerr's publications and movements during the time of the killings, the present being an example; clearly he had an interest in the occult. Doerr's blurb at the end gives a list of publications he sells, including1001 Nightsby Ladonko,Medicine Scoutby Sanders, and Trove,Unknown, Pioneer, Livabord, andHobitaliamagazines. This particular publication was written by the son of an Indiana magician, Reginald Lawrence, whose stage name was "Mysterious Lawrence." Younger Lawrence dedicates the work to his father and writes about his years of research into the unknown, including methods of self-induced trance and detailed experiments in séance. All this is written from his "Lawrence Occult Research Institute (Ghost Section), Mystery Village," which he also describes as being a laboratory, UFO museum, magic museum, and parapsychology institute. This copy comes from the collection of influential American ufologist, and founder/publisher ofSaucer News, James Moseley (1931-2012). OCLC cites no holdings for this publication, nor do we find it elsewhere. We do find mentions of a few of the magazines Doerr published, also being quite rare. In any event, a very interesting publication linking 20th century psychic investigation in the Midwest with a famous California murder case and prominent ufologist. 8.5x11" sheets, reproduced from typescript, 18pp. Single-staple bound in self wrappers, and three-hole-punched along the side. Jim Moseley's copy with his name and address in ms on front, presumably by Doerr. Postmarked 1972 in Vallejo and with stamp. Transmittal folds, toning, else very good.

Añadir al carritoFirst edition. 122 pp. [printed 4 pp. to one sheet], offset printed on newsprint. Near Fine, toned with age as is typical, tiny horizontal tear to p. 3, but otherwise in great shape. Rare. A comprehensive issue of 1970s 'zine about dropping out of society, going back to the land, and living a "voluntarily life" according to libertarian/anarchist principles. This particular issue contains contributions by "Rayo," likely a pseudonym of a survivalist and prolific fanzine contributor named Paul Doerr, whom author Jarett Kobek identified as the infamous Zodiac Killer in the 2022 book How to Find Zodiac, largely by examining Doerr's writings and movements during the Zodiac Killer's periods of activity. The book made a quite a splash in the small but active internet communities where such topics are hotly debated and even managed to make news in The Guardian and other outlets. This issue features a lot of Rayo's articles including "16 'Ways to Live Free,' A Critical Evaluation," "40 by 8 Feet of Shelter for $30 and One Day," "Warmth without Fire: Complete Plans for $55 Foam Hut," and more.
