Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. This, the fifth and final volume in the Trinity Tales series, completes a cycle that began with tales from the 1960s. It invites readers to step into the world of Trinity College as it was in the first decade of this century through the reflections of students who attended the university during those years.Within its pages lie the stories of twenty-eight graduates from a mix of diverse backgrounds whose experiences may dispel the myths of what it means to be a 'Trinity student'. The collection reveals the rapidly changing world of the early 2000s. This was a time of the internet revolution, when social media first affected student life, when mobile phones and laptops became ubiquitous, when handwritten work was passing into history, when The Buttery closed its doors - and all this coming against the backdrop of an overheating then imploding Irish economy. This kaleidoscope of recollections captures a student body in transformation and features stories of personal discovery and achievement against the odds. For some it proved a life-changing era when sexual, racial or class barriers were confronted. This volume concludes a remarkable half-century journey, portraying the lives of others, and of ourselves.

Añadir al carritoNo Binding. Condición: Collectible-Very Good. Original letter handwritten in dark gray ink on light beige paper. Letter on stationery of Hotel New Weston, New York. Signed, "Alice M. Dickson." Dated June 30, 1955. 6" x 9 1/4." Three pages. Letter is very clean and intact except for light age toning and a few wrinkles. A Very Good copy. Alice M. Dickson worked for both Herbert Hoover on the Belgian War Relief and later for Lou Henry Hoover on the Emergency Committee for Employment. She also worked in publishing at Doubleday. In this letter, Dickson writes to "Mrs. Bright" about a copy of the "Interfaith Observer" which had been included with the letter (no longer included). Dickson is very critical of the publication and its associated "Interfaith Group" who meets at the "Community Church--which we identify always as 'liberal.'" Dickson had attended a meeting of the Interfaith Group as an "observer," possibly for political reasons. Dickson writes, "That meeting was attended mostly by Jewish people, and about 1/5 or 1/6 [people of color]." She also appears to be very critical of a solicitation in the publication from the American Civil Liberties Union and a notice about the activities of the "One World Award Committee." She writes that the columnist, Westbrook Pegler, has written some "pretty violent" columns about the One World Award Committee. Signed by Author(s).

He said, "You are going to write your grief story." I responded with one sentence: "I do not think I can do this." Why I was asked to do this I did not understand. As I began to write, though, I could see how grief intertwined with every aspect of my life. Experiences that occurred long ago surfaced and became a part of my grief journey. I felt pain, joy, sadness, hope and peace. This journey took me back to my childhood, which gave me pain and joy, and allowed me to see myself in a different light. It gave me strength I never knew I had. Everything began to make sense as I traveled on this road, and I started to see all that happened as part of my circle of life. My book allowed me to explore episodes in my life that are no longer painful. I was able to incorporate joy with the pain and face the trauma of loss. All this occurred because of God and following His direction to write it all out. He is my foundation. My journey has gotten easier because of Him. My hope is that all of you who read my story will know whatever grief you are experiencing will end."________________________________________________________________ __________This is Alice Dickson's second book. Her first, was Merging Shadows, a memoir. Prior to becoming an author, Alice held various positions in nursing and worked within the incarcerated community through the Prison Bible Study Ministry at her church, Bethlehem Baptist.
