Condición: Gut. Zustand: Gut | Seiten: 964 | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | This book uses the reflection of academics specialized in the urban area of ¿¿Latin America, Europe and the United States, to initiate a comparative debate of the different dynamics in which Urbicidio expresses itself. The field or focal point of analysis that this publication approaches is the city, but under a new critical perspective of inverse methodology to that has been traditional used. It is about understanding the structural causes of self-destruction to finally thinking better and then going from pessimism to optimism. It is a deep look at the city from an unconventional entrance, because it is about knowing and analyzing what the city loses by the action deployed by own urbanites, both in the field of its production and in the field of its consumption. This suppose that the city does not have an ascending linear sequential evolution in its development but neither in each of its parts in the improvement process, showing the face that commonly not seen but others live. The category used for this purpose is that of Urbicidio or the death of the city, which contributes theoretically and methodologically to the knowledge of the city, as well as to the design of urban policies that neutralize it. In addition, it is worth mentioning that the book has an inclusive view of the authors. For this reason, gender parity, territorial representation and the presence of age groups have been sought.…

Añadir al carritoCondición: Near Fine. Relation of the movements of the Dutch pirates and Corsairs in the West Indies and the Cuban pirate Diaguillo the Mulatto [Mexico and the West Indies, Dutch Piracy] [Cepeda, Fernando de]. 1639. Madrid. Diego Diaz. Folio, (305 x 210 mm). 6 ff. Modern vellum, spine lettered in ink. Rare report regarding the struggle against Dutch piracy in the West Indies, addressed to King Philip IV by the Marquis of Cadereyta, Viceroy of New Spain, including an account of the successful defense of the Spanish Treasure Fleet near Havana from the Dutch Buccaneer 'Houtebeen' in 1638. The account is written by Fernando de Cepeda on behalf of the Viceroy, it brings forward the news of Admiral Carlos de Ibarra's successful defense of the Spanish Treasure Fleet off the coast of Cuba from the attack by the Dutch West India Company (WIC) Admiral and buccaneer, Cornelis Jol (1597-1641), known as 'Houtebeen' or 'Peg Leg'. This is the second edition, first printed in Mexico 1638. Ibarra ("Yvarra"), Viscount of Centenera, was the commander of the Spanish Armada that confronted, on August 31, 1638, the Dutch pirates in American waters. The battle took place off the coast of Pan de Cabañas. The imprint begins with the Viceroy's information of the Dutch plans, his orders to secure the port, and his command ordering the battalions of the city of Puebla and the Bishopric of Tlaxcala to be prepared and come to the defense of Veracruz, as well as forming companies to assist Vera Cruz. The document continues with the account from the President of the Audiencia of Santo Domingo, providing information about the movements of Dutch pirates and privateers in the West Indies, including the capture of several frigates by the pirate Diaguillo the Mulatto). The report also contains an account sent by Don Carlos Ybarra, Captain General of the Royal Navy of the Guard of the Indies trade, detailing the attack by the Dutch and his journey, arrival to Cartagena, his receipt of news from the Viceroy of Dutch pirates coming from Brazil in the seas, etc. Overall, a significant show of the Spanish network of information between the commanders of the fleets and the authorities, to fight the most dangerous enemy, pirates. The battle lasted for approximately eight hours. Afterward, they continued their journey, and on September 3, the Dutch reappeared with thirteen ships. Later on, convinced that he could not definitively overcome the obstacle, Captain Ybarra decided to sail towards Veracruz, join the Fleet of New Spain, and report to the Marquis of Cadereyta, the Viceroy of New Spain. Rare, we can locate two copies in the U.S.: Minnesota and Huntington. Palau 51559; Medina, BHA, 994. A full description is available upon request.…
