Diese Erkenntnisse und die Einsparmöglichkeiten an Rohstoffen und Energie er fordern große Anstrengungen, um mit den Problemen der Reibung und des Verschleißes fertig zu werden. Hier kann das systematische Zusammenwirken mehrerer Wissensgebiete in dem interdisziplinaren Fach "Tribologie" einen beachtlichen Beitrag liefern. Nach Offenlegung der Situation in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland in dem BMFT Forschungsbericht "Tribologie" entschlol3 sich das Bundesministerium für Forschung und Technologie (BMFT) im Rahmen seines Rohstofforschungs-Programms zu einer schwerpunktmäßigen Forderung der Tribologie mit einer Laufzeit von zunächst 6 Jahren und einem Fördervolumen in Hohe von ca. 37 Mio. DM im Rahmen der Projektträgerschaft des Instituts für Werkstoff-Forschung der Deutschen Forschungs- und Versuchsanstalt für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V. (DFVLR). Köln.
