Añadir al carrito[BACHE, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN]. Remarks Occasioned by the Late Conduct of Mr. Washington, As President of the United States. M.DCC.XVI. Philadelphia: Printed for Benjamin Franklin Bache, No. 112, Market-Street, 1797. 1st ed. 8vo. iv, 84pp. Very good fully untrimmed copy disbound. Howes B-11: "vicious effort to depreciate the abilities of a great man." Sabin 69389. Evans 31759. Bache (1769-1798), the brash young grandson of Dr. Franklin, had found himself leading criticism against Washington as early as 1795 in the pages of the Aurora, his newspaper, partly in defense of his grandfather's memory and partly because he disapproved of Jay's Treaty, Washington's support of it, and the effect on relations with France. This pamphlet goes beyond the fallout from the treaty to provide an expansive critique of Washington as a politician and as a person.
