The increasing erosion in the right bank of the Padma in the Moribund delta region of Murshidabad district, West Bengal is becoming the nightmare for the people of the area. The Padma is the principal river of the region and controls total drainage system of the area by oscillation and change of its course. As the Padma is a meandering river, bank erosion followed by flood is the common phenomenon. But indiscriminate drawal of water in the upper reaches of the Ganga, deforestation and most importantly construction of Farakka Barrage has aggravated the dimension of river bank erosion. Areas near the Padma have seriously been affected by the changing course of the mother river or its distributaries. In the present treaties author has tried to focus and highlight through empirical data that the study area according to intensity of erosion has been divided.

State/district level ranking on Scheduled Caste Population in India (census 1991). The Illustrated Atlas of Scheduled Castes of India has depicted a comprehensive picture of the Scheduled Caste Communities particularly the weaker sections of the people of India. As per the Census of India 1991 the Scheduled Castes population constitutes about 16 per cent of the total population of India and 478 communities have been notified under the Scheduled Castes of India. The distribution of population of the caste communities is shown rankwise on population strength in each state/union territory up to district level and the data used for showing the distribution pattern of the Scheduled Castes are recorded from the Census 1991. The atlas has evolved 31 plates which comprise two maps of India six regional twenty four state maps and three maps of union territories. Only one state viz. Nagaland and two union territories viz. Andaman and Nicobar and Lakshadweep and Minicoy Islands are excluded because Scheduled Caste communities are not recorded there. The appendix has included a list of Scheduled Caste communities and their statewise distribution. The atlas has also been enriched by a comprehensive table on distribution and percentage of Scheduled Caste population of each state/union territory from 1961 to 1991. Apart from those there are tables showing state/district level ranking on Scheduled Caste Population of India. 136 pp.

Through this Convention, developed countries have also agreed to provide developing countries with funds to both reduce greenhouse gas emissions (mitigate) and build resilience to the current and anticipated changes in average climate conditions (adaptation). While there are several funds administered by a UNFCCC-appointed institute, the World Bank recently launched Climate Investment Funds as an interim mechanism for providing, among other things, adaptation finance in selected developing countries. This book will explore the opportunities and challenges for adaptation financing under the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), as compared to the UNFCCC. 116 pp. Englisch.

This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Climate change has emerged as a contentious environmental issue, occurring due to increasing concentration of green house gases in atmosphere since the pre industrial times. The cost-effective reduction of GHG emissions to avert the most severe impacts of climate change remains one of the widely accepted priorities for global action. The Kyoto Protocol, adopted under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1997, was designed to address this priority while promoting sustainable development. The report discusses certain salient features on development of methane recovery from wastewater treatment and elucidates their interrelationship. To elaborate the modalities, a case study of a power generation project from two Sewage treatment plants has been incorporated. The objective is to estimate the emission reductions that will be achieved after the implementation of the project activity and hence establish the baseline. It also elaborates on the principle and concept of CDM and how it can help project to become viable by the additional income generated from the CDM component which acts as a driving force for developing nations to promote waste to energy projects. 132 pp. Englisch.
