On January 12,1931, a mob of hundred took Raymond Gunn, a 27 year old Negro, from a sheriff in St Joseph, Missouri cut his ears and nose brought him to a schoolhouse chained him to a ridgepole at its top doused him and the roof with gasoline, and ignited it. The clothing burned off Gunn who writhed and emitted one long scream. In 11 minutes he was still. Very good plus in finely woven black cloth stamped brightly in gilt on the spine. Clean and tight throughout. With a touch of fraying to the top edges of the spine and light rubbing to the corners. In the scarce tan dustjacket printed in red. The jacket is chipped with various pieces missing at the top and bottom of the spine and at the corners. There's a 1" closed tear along the spine at the bottom of the rear panel and a 2" separation along the spine at the center edge.The front panel is mottled and the front inside flap has been clipped.
