Añadir al carritoSoftcover. Condición: Very Good. Later edition (see below). Slim 24mo. 45, [3] pp. Stapled wrappers. Cheap paper coned, spine and about a third of the text with a tiny tear in the gutter, and a bit of spotting on the opening page spread, a very good or better copy with the paper supple. An interesting guide to both New York City and one's health, issued by Dr. William A. Walker, who practiced at 142 E. 34th Street, between Lexington and Third Avenue. Most rectos print information about the city, and versos print information about blood disease, the difference between healthy and unhealthy urine, diathermy, blood pressure, kidneys, hemorrhoids and rectal disease, etc. etc. *OCLC* locates a couple of copies with 1936 and 1937 calendars on the lower wrap; our copy has calendars for all of 1937 and the first six months of 1938. All editions appear to be very uncommon. A nice piece of New York City medical history.…

Some chipping at spine ends and folds, a few bent page corners towards the end, a very good copy. A popular New York guide first published in 1859; this 1881 edition in wrappers is scarce. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: Near Fine. (16) unnumbered pages. Softcover in original wrapper. 21cm. Dark brown stripe along right edge of front cover. Beekman, an African American, was a dentist in Brooklyn (graduating from the New York Dental School in 1902) and also a sometime President of the local chapter of the NAACP. His address was a brief view of the history of the New York African Society for Mutual Relief since its formal organization in 1808 including brief mention of its involvement in the Underground Railroad and information by name and trades of several of its most illustrious members. The end date for this Society seems unclear -- some online information has 1945 as an end date but Beekman refers to it as an ongoing society in this 1946 address and organizational records seem to exist up to the late 1940s or possibly the early 1950s.…
