Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. "The object of life is impossible; one cuts out fabrication and creates reality. A mirror is held to the back of the head and one's hand has to move the opposite way from what was intended." In these closing lines from Impossible Object, one has embodied both Nicholas Mosley's subject of love and imagination, as well as his unmatched lyric style. In eight carefully connected stories that are joined by introspective interludes on related subjects, the author pursues the notion, through the lives of a couple seen by different narrators, that "those who like unhappy ends can have them, and those who don't will have to look for them." Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - Poetry. Art. Winner of the 2014 Tenth Gate Prize, IMPOSSIBLE OBJECT unfolds what it means to read--read deeply, read fully, read for our lives. Says Tenth Gate Series Editor, Leslie McGrath, 'Lisa Sewell's poems are shot through with an adhesive intelligence born of the accretion of craft, discernment, and engagement with the world.' Arthur Sze describes the poems here as 'spellbindingly present,' while Linda Gregerson says, 'These poems are urgent; they are fresh; they acknowledge no divisions in the world, not between the landscape and the printed page, not between her neighbor's suffering and her own being spared, not between the private and the public worlds. And this is the IMPOSSIBLE OBJECT espoused in each and every line: connection in its purest form.'.

The Necker Cube is an optical illusion first published in 1832 by Swiss crystallographer Louis Albert Necker. The Necker Cube is an ambiguous line drawing. It is a wire-frame drawing of a cube in oblique perspective, which means that parallel edges of the cube are drawn as parallel lines in the picture. When two lines cross, the picture does not show which is in front and which is behind. This makes the picture ambiguous; it can be interpreted two different ways. When a person stares at the picture, it will often seem to flip back and forth between the two valid interpretations (so-called multistable perception). The effect is interesting because each part of the picture is ambiguous by itself, yet the human visual system picks an interpretation of each part that makes the whole consistent. The Necker Cube is sometimes used to test computer models of the human visual system to see whether they can arrive at consistent interpretations of the image the same way humans do.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Penrose triangle, also known as the Penrose tribar, is an impossible object. It was first created by the Swedish artist Oscar Reutersvärd in 1934. The mathematician Roger Penrose independently devised and popularised it in the 1950s, describing it as 'impossibility in its purest form'. It is featured prominently in the works of artist M. C. Escher, whose earlier depictions of impossible objects partly inspired it. The tribar appears to be a solid object, made of three straight beams of square cross-section which meet pairwise at right angles at the vertices of the triangle they form.

Neuware -Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articlesavailable from Wikipedia or other free sources online. An impossibleobject (also known as an impossible figure or an undecidable figure) isa type of optical illusion consisting of a two-dimensional figure whichis instantly and subconsciously interpreted by the visual system asrepresenting a projection of a three-dimensional object although it isnot actually possible for such an object to exist (at least not in theform interpreted by the visual system). In most cases the impossibilitybecomes apparent after viewing the figure for a few seconds. Howeverthe initial impression of a 3D object remains even after it has beencontradicted. There are also more subtle examples of impossible objectswhere the impossibility does not become apparent spontaneously and it isnecessary to consciously examine the geometry of the implied object todetermine that it is impossible.VDM Verlag, Dudweiler Landstraße 99, 66123 Saarbrücken 72 pp. Englisch.

Op art, also known as optical art, is a genre of visual art that makes use of optical illusions. 'Optical art is a method of painting concerning the interaction between illusion and picture plane, between understanding and seeing.' Op art works are abstract, with many of the better known pieces made in only black and white. When the viewer looks at them, the impression is given of movement, hidden images, flashing and vibration, patterns, or alternatively, of swelling or warping.
