From a Hudson Institute on-line posting: "Max Singer is an independent consultant on public policy and a Senior Fellow at Hudson Institute in the U.S. and at t…he BESA Institute of Bar Ilan University in Israel. He is also Research Director of the Institute for Zionist Strategies in Jerusalem where he now lives. He was a founder with Herman Kahn of Hudson Institute in 1961 and its president until 1973. He continues to serve as a senior fellow and trustee of Hudson. From 1974 to 1976 he was managing director of the World Institute in Jerusalem, and from 1977 to 1978 he was director of the Institute for Jewish Policy Planning and Research of the Synagogue Council of America. Before co-founding Hudson Institute he served in the U.S. Army Reserve (ACDUTRA) and worked for the American Law Institute and the General Counsel's Office of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. Mr. Singer earned a B.A. at Columbia College and holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Harvard Law School. Singer is the author of The History of the Future: The Shape of the World to Come Is Visible Today (Lexington Books, 2011); Passage to a Human World: the Dynamics of Creating Global Wealth, with a foreword by Irving Kristol (Transaction Publishers, 2d ed. 1989); and The REAL World Order: Zones of Peace/Zones of Turmoil, with Aaron Wildavsky (Chatham House, rev'd ed. 1996), which won the 1996 Grawemeyer Award for Ideas Improving World Order. He also has written numerous articles for Commentary, The National Interest, The Public Interest, The New York Times Magazine, Reader? s Digest, The Atlantic Monthly, and many newspapers." Very good. Therefore one can predict the future of countries still undergoing this change by looking at the history of countries which have already completed their transition.Singer asserts that a "war system" has long existed in which the central concern of nations has been to protect their security by military forces and alliances. He makes the dramatic claim that, because of the inherent nature of modern countries, there will be no war system in any region populated solely by modern countries-as illustrated by the current situation in Western Europe-even though human character will not have improved. However, despite the fact that poverty, tyranny, and war will be largely eliminated, the modern world may be worse for people than the traditional world because most of the things that shaped human character will be obsolete. The world is in a unique transition from all of past history to modern life which, when the transition is completed, will be wealthy, free, and peaceful. History of the Future shows that while modernity has significant advantages it will present great challenges and could leave people worse off than they were in the past.
