Society's readiness for inclusion coincides with the accumulation of more and more evidence about the limitations of special education. But although the arguments for inclusive education seem overwhelming ethically and empirically the move to inclusion has been painfully slow. After exploring the arguments for inclusion, this book examines the interna-tional evidence of children's well-being and academic progress in inclusive schools. It also describes how those who are in the vanguard of inclusion have gone about developing their practice. The second part of the book presents a detailed case study of one special school's confrontation with exclusion and its transformation from a special school into an inclusion service a project which involved closing the special school and moving its children to a group of m.
