The author was a former U.S. Member of the House of Representatives from the Eighth District of Indiana. Roger Herschel Zion (born September 17…, 1921) is an American politician. Zion was born in Escanaba, Michigan in 1921. He attended public schools in Evansville, Indiana, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1943. He served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946, serving in the Asia-Pacific area during World War II, and was discharged a lieutenant. Zion attended Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration from 1944 to 1945. He became associated with Mead Johnson & Company, working for the company from 1946 and 1965 and eventually becoming director of training and professional relations. He was elected as a Republican to the United States House of Representatives from Indiana in the 1966 election to the 90th Congress and was re-elected to the three succeeding Congresses, serving from January 3, 1967 to January 3, 1975. Zion was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1974 to the 94th Congress, losing to Philip H. Hayes. After leaving Congress, Zion became the president of Resources Development Inc. in Washington, D.C. Former United States Congressman Roger Zion, of Evansville, Indiana, has written a warm, witty, and, at times, wacky memoir filled with anecdotes, one-liners, and legendary tales about various Presidents, House members of both parties and both sexes, Senators, statesmen, golfers, and the folks back home in Indiana.

Congressman Roger Zion has lead a very exciting life from his days as a lifeguard in Milwaukee and hitchhiking around the country in search of a lady love lo his special assignments as a member of congress. After leaving law school at the University of Wisconsin, Roger joined the Navy where he served four years on active duty and sixteen years in the reserve. During his navy duty he had some hazardous flights as an aviator but wound up as a supply officer in the Pacific. That duty made it possible for him to log a trip up the Yangtze River, which he reports in detail. His greatest achievements, however, occurred when in 1966 he was elected to congress as the 'upset victor of the year'. As a member of the Public works committee he participated in helping rescue the navy base in Cuba after Castro shut off their power and water. As a member of the Internal Security Commit he charged Jane Fonda and Ramsey Clark with treason for giving aid and comfort to the enemy. . He is best known, however, for getting international attention for Vietnamese failure comply with the provisions of the Geneva Convention. When millions of protest letter, arrived in Vietnam headquarters in Paris, their leader sent for Roger to explain their 'humiliation'. The meeting resulted in Zion getting a film which showed many prisoners of war who at .that time were listed us missing in action.
