His five previous novels have been translated and published throughout Euroope This book is the first to appear in English. After a two-year stay in Moscow, Clea, ex-Trotskyite and militant vegetarian, has returned to London with her Russian husband Konstantin only to witness a complete transformation in his personality. In England his eccentricity has taken a U-turn. He is incapable of fitting into any culture, an alien at home and abroad. As the story moves from a gathering of drunken Muscovites to a bizarre mushroom-picking party on an English nuclear base, from the dire everyday existence in a Soviet communal flat to the shocking farce of sex and adultery in an English kitchen. Superior copy, gift-quality condition, inside and out, no discernible wear, bright and shiny dust jacket, protected. Publisher's review slip laid in, along with business card, having been sent to Stephen Fidel at Powell's Books. His Wikipedia entry says that Zinik, A native of Moscow, "studied art at one of the city's art schools and later studied geometrical topology at Moscow State University. He also attended a school of theatre criticism run by Moscow theatre magazine Teatr. Later he became "a close friend and associate of the conceptual artist Alexander Melamid. In his early writing, Zinik was influenced by his older friends and mentors, Alexander Asarkan (1930-2004), a mail-artist and theatre critic; and Pavel Ulitin (1918?1986), who used cut-ups technique in his avant-garde prose." Upon emigrating to Jerusalem in 1975 he was stripped of his Soviet citizenship, then in 1976, "he was invited to contribute to BBC radio and since 1977, he has permanently lived and worked in London, writing in English as well as in his native Russian.
