Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the potential of space variant sensors in machine and robotic vision, inspired by the strongly space variant nature of the human visual system. The author, an expert in computational neuroscience, utilizes a complex logarithmic mapping function to accurately model the human visual representation and provides realistic estimates of the nature of such a unique imaging system. The author delves into three primary algorithms related to the blending of a single scene from multiple frames: fusing space variant contour-based scenes with different fixation points into a single multi-scan view; an attentional algorithm that recursively examines the current knowledge of the scene to optimally choose the next fixation point based on focusing attention in regions of maximum boundary curvature; and a simple metric for evaluating convergence over scan path. Through detailed analysis and illustrative examples, this book sheds light on essential concepts such as image data compression, visual attention, and convergence, highlighting the potential of space variant imaging systems in both machine and biological vision. Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a novel algorithm for object segmentation in stereo vision, designed by the author to mirror principles of the human visual cortex. The algorithm analyzes a pair of stereo images through a windowed cepstral filter operating on a columnar image architecture inspired by ocular dominance columns. The result is a one-step measurement of disparity, and is resistant to disturbances including blur, size differences, and intensity changes. By explaining and discussing the algorithm in relation to the limitations and advantages of human stereo vision, the author presents a computational solution to a problem which has been elusive in the field of computer vision. Furthermore, the author suggests that the algorithm provides a rationale for the existence of columnar systems in the human brain, both with regard to ocular mixing, and to other modalities. The book will be of interest to researchers in computational stereo and vision science, as well as scholars and students of cognitive science, neuroscience, and artificial intelligence.
