This copy is almost 100 years old, has been well taken care of and is in fine condition. Its construction is unlike most of the poorly made book club editions. The buckram covered boards, high quality paper and matching top stain add up to a handsome edition possibly as desirable and rare as the first edition. The text block is solid, clean and square. Pictorial endpapers are clear of markings with small previous owner's bookplate under front flap. Spine tight, boards rigid and tips pointed. Slight push to spine ends. There is no book club deboss on the rear cover. The jacket is in very good minus condition and has some closed tearing along backstrip seams and chipping/loss at spine ends and some edges. It looks sleek in a shiny new plastic cover. Shipping box is suitable for wrapping with a non-price listed purchase order inside along with biodegradable packing.

They were just what she needed for her own garden, and she asked her host what they were. "Those are Nellie Stevens hollies," was the reply. She looked again and couldn't help but wonder about the name. Who in the world is Nellie Stevens, and how did her name ever become associated with this plant? She noted other intriguing names, and she asked similar questions. She saw a beautifulblue clematis and wondered if Betty Corning was still alive and what stories she had to tell. She wondered about the places and people whose names are associated with so many popular garden plants. She is not alone. If necessity is the mother of invention, curiosity is the mother of research. In many cases, we wonder not what our gardens grow, but who our gardens grow. Until now, these accounts have not been compiled and unfortunately, many of the people are disappearing, their stories with them. Now gardeners can enjoy the beauty of their plants and delight in the tales they tell." ; Contents: Anna, Illinois -- Arnold Arboretum -- Janes Bath -- Lole Benedict -- ray Bracken -- Luther Burbank -- Molly Bush -- Cedar lane Farm -- John Champneys, Phillippe Noisette -- Corbett, maryland -- Betty Corning -- John Creech -- Roy Davidson -- Vince and Barbara Dooley -- Eco-Gardens -- Katie Ferguson -- Henry and Sally Fuller -- Fred Galle -- Gardenview Horticultural park -- Azilda Gerbing -- Goodness Grows -- Kim Hawks -- mary Gibson Henry -- Poly Hill -- Andre Iseli -- Tina James -- Joseph Kassab -- Hella Lacy -- Michael Lindsey -- Carol Mackie -- Frank N Meyer -- Montrose Nursery -- David Mooberry -- Mt. Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: new. Paperback. The Young Adult / Young Reader novella edition of the full length historical novel Wizard Clip Haunting, but with only 8% of the original novel's length, a lower reading level, and a single POV, that of Adam Livingston's young, 12-year old daughter. In the dark wilderness of early America, an ancient evil has followed settlers to their new homeland. When a malevolent Babylonian spirit begins terrorizing her father's farm, 12-year-old Eve Livingston watches helplessly as supernatural forces tear her family apart. Strange symbols are clipped from linen, hot coals fly at visitors from the fireplace, unseen hands wield scissors in the night, and blood-curdling screams echo across her father's farm. Her father's only hope to defeat the haunting spirit lies in an unlikely alliance with Father Denis Cahill, a rogue Irish priest whose own demons have followed him across the Atlantic. But Eve has a secret weapon that brings her and her whole family hope. Based on the infamous true events known as the Wizard Clip, this tale of supernatural horror chronicles the real-life terror that descended upon the isolated community of Smithfield, Virginia. The haunting was so severe that Bishop John Carroll dispatched Rev. Demetrius Augustine Gallitzin-who would later become known as the Apostle of the Alleghenies-to investigate. After three months of witnessing inexplicable phenomena, Gallitzin wrote: "No lawyer in a court of justice did more than I, nor procured more than your unworthy servant, that soon I was converted to a full belief of them."Two centuries later, the village-now known as Clip Town and Middleway, West Virginia-still bears the scars of its haunted history. Wooden emblems featuring a crescent moon and scissors mark the buildings, silent testaments to the darkness that once held this frontier settlement in its grip. The Livingston farm's terrifying legacy lives on, a chilling reminder that some evils are older than America itself. Wizard Clip Haunting, Jr. - Eve's Story is the Young Adult / Young Reader edition of the full length adult historical novel Wizard Clip Haunting: This item is printed on demand.
