Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Academic Paper from the year 2014 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict Studies, Security, grade: 78.00, University of Nottingham, language: English, abstract: There are numerous complications and difficulties that are associated with formulating grand strategy which may hinder the process. It is the examination of both these complications associated with grand strategy, and the factors which must be considered by strategists in order to formulate a successful grand strategy that contribute to the body of this essay. The prevailing notion throughout is that in order for a nation to have a 'successful' grand strategy, many components and considerations must be thoroughly contemplated. Just what these components and considerations are, shall be examined in due course. It should be noted however, that this question is exceptionally problematic to definitively answer, due to the nature of subjectivity surrounding grand strategy. For this reason, various case studies shall be examined throughout in order to try and articulate an answer.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Document from the year 2013 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict Studies, Security, grade: 89.00, University of Nottingham, language: English, abstract: Since this document primarily focuses on the role of air power within the confines of the latter of the two conflicts, the analysis will be strictly related to just that as opposed to broader military operational analysis, only with occasional reference to the former conflict of 1994-1996.The role of Russian air power throughout the first conflict varies significantly when contrasted with that of the second. This, as will be discussed later, is primarily a result of the lessons learnt from the first conflict- which is generally conceded as a Russian operational failure since Chechnya still remained a de facto independent state following the declaration of the 'Khasavyurt Accords' resulting in a ceasefire in 1996. The second conflict on the other hand, can be considered, at least in operational terms, successful since Russia restored federal control of the territory. Defence cuts and structural problems within the Russian air force attributed to a defeat in the first conflict and a 'humiliating victory' (Haas, D.M: 2004; 1-18) in the second. Although the air force was not the only branch of the Russian military that faced defence cuts, it was perhaps arguably the most strategically indispensible in a conflict which had been suggested by the then Russian Defence Minister Pavel Grachev, as an opportunity to exhibit Russia's rapid deployment capabilities. The conclusions of both conflicts are a result of the Russian air force not being utilised effectively- or rather unable to be utilised to the extent required within a theatre of war constituted by counter insurgency combat.Nevertheless, Russian air power was used extensively and considered to be paramount in strategic discourse throughout both conflicts (Malek. M: 2009; 8-12).…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Professorial Dissertation from the year 2012 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict Studies, Security, grade: 78, University of Lincoln, language: English, abstract: The increasing use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has proven to be a catalyst for contentious dialogue (Valavanis et al: 2008; 3) between those whom acknowledge the suggested advantages of deploying UAVs and those who disagree on the basis that there are unjustifiable moral implications, especially in the context of warfare (Boyle. M :2013; 21). I remain impartial with regard to these arguments, however full justification shall be provided in due course as to why. This paper therefore, shall be written from the perspective of my own. To accurately evaluate these contrasting arguments we must first identify the meaning of morality in the context of warfare. Devlin. P (1965) acknowledges that definitively stating the confines of morality remains a hugely subjective issue, and so for simplicity, one broadly suited definition shall be accepted throughout the scope of this work. I believe Meisels. T's (2012: 932) notion whereby the laws of warfare, such as those presented in the Geneva conventions and the theory of 'just war'; which establishes humane 'rules' of conducting warfare, are inextricably linked with the notion of preserving morality during war. This perception on morality will therefore provide the parameters for the entirety of this essay to be argued from, and so whether warfare is 'moral' or not shall be decided by the extent to which war conforms with both the Geneva conventions and more importantly the theory of just war.…
