Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book makes a case for the continuity of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States with the Church of England, examining how the legal codes and regulations of the latter were inherited and adapted by the former. The author's historical perspective posits that the Episcopal Church shares a legal lineage with the Church of England, arguing that the ecclesiastical law of England was in force in the American colonies. Exploring the development of ecclesiastical law during five distinct historical periods in England, the author traces the influence of British, Anglo-Saxon, Anglo-Roman, Anglican, and colonial legal systems on the formation of the unique legal framework of the Episcopal Church in the United States. Particularly, the author focuses on the legal status of the Episcopal Church after the American Revolution, arguing that the church maintained its legal continuity with the Church of England despite political separation, continuing to be governed by English ecclesiastical law. This historical analysis provides insights into the legal foundations of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States and highlights the enduring influence of English ecclesiastical law on its governance.
